A Simple, Rapid and Sensitive Method for the Quantification of Methyl-Beta-Cyclodextrin

Abstract:A simple, rapid and sensitive method for methyl-Beta-cyclodextrin determination by employing Coomassie Brilliant Blue G-250 binding to methyl-Beta-cyclodextrin is described. The binding of the dye to methyl-Beta-cyclodextrin causes a shift in the absorption maximum of the dye from 465 to 637 nM, and the increase of the absorption at 637 nM can be monitored by spectrum photometer. The binding process virtually completes within approximately 5 minutes and the color stability can last at least for 1 hour. This assay is very reproducible, simple, sensitive, and may provide extensive application possibilities in research of biological membranes and drug dynamics.
