Application of FBG Sensors in monitoring Properties of High Performance Concrete Beam during Early Curing Period

Abstract:HPC can offer superior strength and low permeability, due to its pretty low water-cement ratio and the use of various additives, pretty high autogenous shrinkage may occur compared with ordinary concrete. In the early age of HPC member under unloading state, although the micro-cracking inside concrete structure resulting from autogenous shrinkage and thermal deformation is invisible, but its influence on the long-term durability of concrete structure is prominent. In this paper, the properties of HPC beam specimens during the early curing period are studied by FBG embedded strain sensors. Since FBG senses both strain and temperature simultaneously, for accurate measurement of strain, FBG temperature sensors are used to compensate temperature effect of FBG strain sensors. Meanwhile FBG temperature sensors can monitor inner temperature changes of concrete. Simultaneous measuring of strain and temperature has been realized here. Also the content of water reducing agent on autogenous shrinkage has been analyzed.
