Synthesis of Poly(4-vinylpyridine)/Polystyrene Multihead Microspheres
Abstract:Monodispersed poly(4-vinylpyridine) (P4VP) microspheres latexes are synthesized by soapless emulsion polymerization. Subsequently, poly(4-vinylpyridine)/polystyrene (P4VP/PS) composite microspheres are synthesized by seeded emulsion polymerization, using the above latex as a seed, and styrene as the second-stage monomer. A unique structure containing (P4VP) microspheres with multiheads (PS phase regions) has been observed to be evolved. It is also found that the number and size of these multiheads (PS phase regions) increase with an increase in the quantity of styrene.
