Synthesis and characterizations of amorphous titania nanoparticles

Abstract:Using tetrabutyl titanate as a precursor, amorphous titania (TiO2) nanoparticles have been synthesized by a sol-gel method. Thermal gravimetry, differential scanning calorimetry, powder X-ray diffraction, fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were employed to characterize the amorphous titania nanoparticles. The results indicated that after calcination at 320 C for 2 hours, the product obtained is pure, amorphous TiO2 nanoparticle aggregates of about 30 nm in diameter with the primary particle size of 3-5 nm.
