基于GIS icon的多元地理空间数据可视化技术及其软件实现

摘要:随着地理信息科学的发展和科学可视化研究的推进,多元地理空间数据可视化的研究备受关注。本文讨论如何将传统的icon加以扩展为GIS icon,在此基础上提出了用icon地图来实现对多元地理空间数据的可视化分析。具体来说这种扩展主要是通过将传统以像元为架构的两层栅格数据结构(像元-影像)扩展为基于icon图形设计的三层影像结构(像元-icon-影像),使得简单的栅格数据层能够在每个像元位置表达多个地理空间变量,从而揭示这些变量彼此协同作用产生的空间模式,达到挖掘地理空间信息的目的。由于目前尚无商业化的软件能够将多元地理数据层转换为icon影像地图,所以本文设计了原型软件系统IconMapper来实现所提出的方法。该系统用VB程序设计语言和一个具有栅格数据计算功能的开发控件MFCOM集成开发了IconMapper系统,以展示所提出的可视化技术并验证其有效性。结果表明,该系统能够很好地基于静态和动态的icon模板设计,将多元地理空间变量转换为icon影像地图,并对其进行可视化分析。最后以土壤营养物质成分的系统可视化为实例验证了所提出的方法与研发的系统功能。

GIS icon based visualization technique and system implementation for multivariate geospatial data
Abstract:The visualization of multivariate geospatial data is an important concern in environmental modeling, exploratory data analysis, and geographic/spatial applications. This paper presents an GIS icon-based visualization technique designed for co-visualizing multiple layers of geospatial information. GIS Icon image maps are based on a three-tiered image structure consisting of pixel, icon block and image levels. In icon image maps it is icons rather than pixels that form meaningful visualization primitives. The extension from pixels to icons in the icon image map technique enables raster GIS to represent multiple variables at a single location in the 'simple' raster data model. Due to the fact that no commercial GIS package is currently available for the implementation of the proposed technique, a prototype software system, termed IconMapper was developed as an implementation of the GIS icon based visualization technique. The VB programming language and MFCOM software control were used to implement the system and test the proposed approach. The results show that the IconMapper system allows the user to create GIS icon image maps using pre-designed static or dynamic GIS icon templates and facilitate visualization analysis. An application of the approach and IconMapper system was presented to verify the usefulness of them. The relative simplicity and flexibility of the GIS icon based approach makes it a powerful tool for non-fused visualization of multivariate geospatial data.
