Fabrication of superhydrophobic spherical-like α-FeOOH films on the wood surface by a hydrothermal method

Abstract:The superhydrophobic spherical-like α-FeOOH films on the wood surface was obtained from ferric sulfate and urea by a hydrothermal reaction process followed by a self-assembly of Octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS) monolayer. The microstructure, chemical state and composition of the products were observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-rad diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and Energy disperse X-ray analysis (EDX). The hydrophobic property of the treated samples was described by static water contact angles (CAs) and sliding water contact angles (SA) measurement. The stability under ambient condition and durability for corrosive liquid of the surperhydrophobic samples were also investigated in this paper. An analytical characterization revealed that the spherical-like α-FeOOH films with micro-nano structure uniformly deposited on the wood surface and OTS molecules combined with α-FeOOH films. The water contact angle of the as-prepared samples reached as high as 158 and the sliding angle was about 4 . The prepared superhydrophobic wood surface still maintained the superhydrophobic property when stored under ambient condition for three months or immersed in a sodium hydroxide solution of pH 12 and a hydrochloric acid solution of pH 2 for 2 hours at room temperature.

木材表面超疏水性球状α-FeOOH膜的合成
摘要:本文在木材表面原位合成球状α-FeOOH和三氯十八烷基硅烷的低表面能处理两步法得到了超疏水木材表面。木材表面的通过X-射线衍射仪表征;超疏水表面的微观结构和化学组成通过扫描电子显微镜(SEM),能谱分析仪(EDXA)观测;二氧化硅粒子跟POTS之间的键合力通过红外光谱(FT-IR)分析;超疏水木材表面的疏水性能通过接触角(CA)和滚动角(SA)测量值大小来表征。分析结果表明:球状α-FeOOH规整有序地堆砌在了木材表面, 在构建的高表面粗糙度和三氯十八烷基硅烷修饰低表面能的共同作用下,木材表面由原来的亲水性变成了超疏水性,其接触角达到了158 ,滚动角小于4.
