The relations of stellar mass and electron temperature-based metallicity of Star-forming galaxies in a wind mass range

Abstract:We select 132 star-forming galaxies from SDSS-DR5-7 with strong emission lines, including [OIII]4363 detected at a signal-to-noise larger than 5sigma. We determine their oxygen abundance, using the temperature-sensitive (T_e) method. Combining 436 star-forming galaxies from Yin et al. (2007), we fit the relation of stellar mass and metallicity in a least-squares linear fit to the median data. We compare our relation with previous results. We find the [OIII]4363 detected more massive galaxies have much lower oxygen abundances than the normal galaxies at the given stellar mass. Part could be explained by the sample themselves as low metallicity ones, but part could come from the method itself. Adopting Andrew (2013) and Lee et al. (2006) data, we derive a consistent relation of stellar mass and metallicity for star-forming galaxies in a much wider stellar mass range: from 10^6M_odot to 10^{11}M_odot.
