Study on corrosion behavior of as-extruded AZ80 magnesium alloy sheet in wet H2S atmosphere

Abstract:The corrosion behavior including the corrosion morphology, corrosion rate, corrosion residual strength, and fracture characteristics of as-extruded AZ80 magnesium alloy sheet in wet H2S atmosphere was investigated by macro-observation, optical microscope, scanning electronic microscope and confocal laser scanning microscope, X-ray diffraction in this work. The results revealed that the corrosion rate gradually decreases with the elapse of exposure time. The corrosion process includes corrosion pits initiate on the surface, get expanded and deeper by layer denudation, and then coalesce and connect together. XRD pattern shows that the corrosion products are mainly composed of Mg(OH)2 and MgSO4o2H2O. The formation of stress concentration and high crack-sensitivity at the bottom of the corrosion pits is the main reason for the drop of the corrosion residual strength and ductility at the early stage of the corrosion process. However, with further increasing exposure time, both of the residual strength and ductility decrease very slowly even reach to a stable state. Besides, the variation of the corrosion residual strength and ductility can be described by the exponential decay function during the whole corrosion test.

摘要:采用宏观观察、光学显微镜观察、扫描电子显微镜观察、激光共聚焦显微镜观察、X射线衍射分析以及室温拉伸等方法研究了挤压AZ80镁合金板材在湿硫化氢气氛中的腐蚀形貌、腐蚀速率、腐蚀残余拉伸性能以及断裂特征等腐蚀行为。结果表明随着腐蚀时间的延长腐蚀速率逐渐减小。腐蚀过程包含腐蚀坑在表面形成,腐蚀坑以层状剥离的形式扩展并加深,最后粗化并连接。腐蚀产生的主要产物是Mg(OH)2和MgSO4o2H2O。腐蚀开始阶段,腐蚀坑底部所产生的应力集中和高的裂纹敏感性是残余强度和塑性迅速降低的主要原因。在整个实验过程中,腐蚀残余强度和塑性的变化可通过指数衰减函数描述。
