TRMM卫星闪电资料在中尺度模式中的同化应用研究

摘要:非感应起电理论和相关的观测表明,闪电和混合相区域内的冰相降水粒子间存在着非常密切的联系。本文首先利用TRMM卫星的闪电、雷达和微波亮温产品建立了10 km格点尺度上的冰相粒子(云冰、霰和雪)和闪电频数之间的经验公式,然后利用中尺度天气预报模式(WRF)对1999年5月9日发生在黄淮地区的一次有三条TRMM卫星过境观测的冰雹降水过程进行了基于该公式的闪电同化试验。同化试验以WSM6微物理方案为接口,利用得到的经验公式将TRMM卫星的闪电观测资料同化进WRF模式,通过调整混合相区域内(-10℃~-40℃)冰相粒子混合比来改进模式的预报。试验结果表明,这种闪电资料同化方法有效调整了模式初始场中的水汽含量及空间分布,同时对局地的风场,位温等也有正面的调节作用,更有利于对流的发展。在短时预报的结果中,同化改进了雷达回波以及降水的空间分布及强度,使其更加接近观测,在一定程度上表明了该同化方法的合理性和可行性。

Assimilation of TRMM lightning data in the WRF-ARW Model
Abstract:Non-induced electrification theory and related observation show that there is a strong relationship between the occurrence of lightning flash and the content of precipitation-sized ice mass in the mixed phase region. The relationships between total lightning flash rate and ice-phase particles (i.e. graupel, ice and snow) on the scale of 10 km are constructed based on the TRMM observations of lightning flash, radar and microwave, then the assimilation of lightning data for the numerical weather prediction of a hail storm with three TRMM overpasses that occurred over the Huang-Huai Valleys on May 9, 1999 observations are conducted using the previous relationships between total lightning flash and ice-phase particle. The constructed relationships were added into the WSM6 microphysical scheme of Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) to adjust the mixing ratio of ice-phase particles within the mixed phase region between ?10 C to ?40 C in order to improve the forecast skill of strong convections. The result shows that the magnitude and spatial distribution of water vapor, wind field and potential temperature in the initial field have been effectively adjusted in the assimilation experiment of flash data, which are favorable to the development of convection. In addition, both the short-term maximum radar reflectivity and precipitation forecasting are also improved, and closer to the TRMM observation.
