基于HPC互联模拟环境动态NTP时钟同步算法

摘要:HPC互联模拟环境对于降低超级计算机研发成本,缩短开发周期具有重要意义。然而,HPC互联模拟环境下各个节点相互协作共同完成并行任务过程中,由于设备之间的差异性造成节点之间的时钟不同步,使得任务计算结果出现较大误差,进而影响最终的仿真结果。针对上述问题,本文提出了一种动态NTP时钟同步算法。首先,我们设计了一个面向单节点的NTP时钟报文监控方法,该方法通过记录每个节点同步前后时间戳,以得到节点同步周期内的时钟偏移量;在此基础上,我们提出了一种同步周期自适应调整算法,该算法根据节点时钟偏移量的大小动态调整每个节点同步周期,以保证各个节点的时钟一致性。我们进行了大量仿真实验,实验结果表明动态NTP时钟同步算法可以有效的实现HPC互联模拟环境下的时钟同步。与传统NTP协议实现时钟同步相比,本文所提算法在保证时钟同步精度达到亚毫秒级别基础上,可以有效减轻模拟器集群网络负载,提高并行任务的执行效率。

Dynamic NTP clock synchronization algorithm based on HPC simulation environment
Abstract:HPC interconnect simulation environment is an efficient approach to lower the development cost and shorten development cycles for supercomputer. In this case, we observe that a coherent clock across all nodes is critical to achieve high accuracy of simulation results. However, the devices diversity problem results in relative difference between nodes. To solve the problem, we present a dynamic NTP time synchronization protocol. First, a NTP clock packet monitoring method for each node is implemented. To obtain the clock offset during synchronization period, this method records the each node timestamp before and after synchronization. Based on that, an adaptive adjustment algorithm for synchronizing cycle is proposed. It adjusts each node synchronization cycle dynamically according to the clock offset. Therefore, consensus-based time synchronization across the different nodes is maintained. The experimental results show that the proposed dynamic NTP time synchronization protocol synchronizing the time (the clock) in HPC interconnect simulation environment between nodes efficiently. Compared to the traditional NTP protocol, our methods can ensure time synchronization accuracy in the microsecond range. Moreover, it improves execution efficiency of parallel computing and lighten simulator cluster network loads.
