Situation and Consideration on Developing Institutional Repositories in China\'s Universities

Abstract：In order to promote the healthy development of institutional repositories in China\'s universities, this paper provides the sustainable development mechanism of institutional repositories in China\'s Universities under the big data environment, in viewing of the gaps and deficiencies in their construction and development. The development process of Chinese and foreign institutional repositories are summarized comprehensively and systematically with network survey research and comprehensive literature analysis. The existing problems in Chinese institutional repositories are identified with the reasons analyzed from the perspective of open access cognition. Combining with the data supporting environment of the fourth paradigm in the big data era, a new mechanism for the constructSituation and Consideration on Developing Institutional Repositories in China\'s Universitiesion and development of institutional repositories in China\'s universities is proposed. The universities\' institutional repositories should adhere to the concept of open sharing, hold on the development opportunities brought by the big data era and clear the obstacles of open sharing from policy guarantees and technical approaches. The universities\' institutional repositories should innovate their construction ideas, change the leading role of "full text" to "metadata" and leap up their construction and development with the big data technologies.
