Mixed electronic and oxygen ion-conduction solid diffusion barrier LaCaMnO3 was prepared by high-temperature solid-phase synthesis. Yttria (8% in molar fraction) stabilized zirconia (YSZ) with high density (ρ>5.8g/cm3) and high conductivity(σ>10-2s/cm) was fabricated by chemical coprecipitation method. Experimental results show that the complex oxygen sensors obtain excellent and stable limiting current platform characteristics from 0% oxygen concentration to ambient air oxygen partial pressure, and the magnitude of limiting current was in a exponential relation with the concentration of oxygen gas at 650 to 750 ℃. The new type sensors with simpler planar structure, faster time response and lower cost can be manufactured for the practical application.

Single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) and room temperature ionic liquid (RTIL) were used to make a gel microelectrode for studies of the oxidation of nitric oxide (NO). The Faraday response of the gel microelectrode was contributed from two components: an outside-surface microdisk and a thin-layer cell formed by inner porous electrode materials, and enhanced by the thin-layer effect. An EC mechanism, electrochemical NO oxidation followed by a chemical oxidation, was proposed. The gel microelectrode with a Nafion® coating eliminated interferences from nitrite and some biomolecules, improved stability, and had a linear response range from 100 nM to 100 µM.
