This paper considers online scheduling on m unbounded parallel-batch machines to minimize maximum flow-time of the jobs. The research shows that no online algorithm can have a competitive ratio less than, where is the positive root of, and this lower bound is still valid even when all jobs have the same processing times. An online algorithm of competitive ratio 1+1/m is presented in the paper. When the jobs have the same processing times, a best possible online algorithm of competitive ratio is established.

Mitotype-specific markers have been developed in order to distinguish among different mitotypes in plant. Here, we comparatively analyzed six sequenced mitochondrial genomes that are studied in Brassica napus and identified the collinear blocks and mitotype-specific sequences (MSSs) of these mitochondrial genomes. The collinear relationship between mitochondrial genomes of nap, cam, and pol cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) lines were higher than those of other lines. After comparative analysis of the six sequenced mitochondrial genomes (cam, nap, ole, pol CMS, ogu CMS, and hau CMS), 90 MSSs with sizes ranging from 101 to 9981 bp and a total length of 103,756 bp (accounting for 6.77% of the mitochondrial genome sequences) were identified. Additionally, 12 mitotype-specific markers were developed based on the mitochondrial genome specific sequences in order to distinguish among these different mitotypes. Cytoplasms of 570 different inbred lines collected from various scientific research institutes in China were identified using the MSS markers developed in our study. In addition to confirming the accuracy of the cytoplasmic identification, we also identified mitotypes that have not been reported in Brassica napus. Our study may provide guidance for the classification of different mitotypes in B. napus breeding.

Complex network is a useful tool to study and analyze the real world networks. However, the growing number of links and nodes brings a challenge for us to analyze the complex network. How to improve the efficiency of extracting backbone has gradually been in a hot research. In this paper, we firstly review some methods of extracting backbone of complex network, and then we put forward an extracting backbone model which is based on information diffusion. Information diffusion has become a focus recently, and the mass information from internet provides data support to study the information diffusion among network. The first step of our model is to identify the critical nodes which will be the initial ones in the information diffusion model, so the information will spread from those nodes to the remainders. During the simulation, those links which play a leading role during the diffusion will be regarded as the important ones to construct the backbone of complex network.

We experimentally demonstrate the recognition of positional isomers of propyl alcohol vapor through nonlinear fluorescence induced by the high-intensity femtosecond laser filaments in air. By measuring characteristic fluorescence of n-propyl and isopropyl alcohol vapors produced by femtosecond filament excitation, it is found that they show identical spectra, namely those from molecular bands CH, C2 and CN, but the relative intensities are different, which can be used to differentiate the two propyl alcohol isomers. The different signal intensities were ascribed to different ionization potential of the isomer molecules, leading to different efficiency of fluorescing fragments.

A general stochastic near-maximum principle in some integral sense is proved for near-optimal control of an stochastic evolution system,where both the drift and diffusion terms are allowed to depend on controls, and also the control domain need not be convex. Error bounds for thenear-optimal controls and the near-maximum condition in infinite dimensional spaces are obtained. Finally, an example isgiven to illustrate our results.

The habitability of exoplanets is a hot research topic in the field of the exploration of the universe in recent years. The Machine Learning (ML) technique provides a viable means for classifying exoplanets according to their habitability. However, the existing ML-based approaches of habitability classification have some serious shortcomings and limitations. To this end, we provide a novel method for predicting the habitability of exoplanet based on Gradient Boosted Regression Trees (GBRT). First, the physical and astronomical data on the potentially habitable exoplanets and the inhabitable ones are employed to train by algorithm GBRT. Then, the trained model is used to predict the habitability of the exoplanets in our test set. The simulated experimental results show that the predictive accuracy of the new method is as high as 100 %.
