FACTORS AFFECTING CHROMIUM LEACHING FROM WASTE NCINERATION RESIDUES
S. Margherita di Pula, Cagliari, Italy; 6-10 October 2003,-0001,():
Factors affecting Chromium leaching from waste incineration residues were analysed from a thermodynamic point of view and investigated in the laboratory in terms of effects of metallic aluminium and ferrous iron on leaching of Cr from flue gas ashes (FGA). Model experiments with saline solution representing ash leachate showed that both metallic aluminium and ferrous iron can effectively reduce Cr(Ⅳ) to Cr(Ⅲ) within the tested pH range of 9-13. Long term leaching experiments showed that Cr release from a treatment or testing point of view is very slow (>100h). Reduced Cr was relatively stable when exposed to air for over two months, which suggested that leaching of Cr may be controlled under alkaline condition if reductants are available.
