Objective: To summarize and analyze the therapeutic effect of Yiqi Huoxue Huashi Project for patients with membranous nephropathy. Methods: One hundred and seventy MN patients were divided into two groups. Seventynine patients in Chinese herb group were treated with “Yiqi Huoxue Huashi Project” alone. One hundred patients in the control group were treated with integrated Chinese-Western therapy (“Yiqi Huoxue Huashi Project”combining with Immuno-suppressive agents). Results: The total effective rate at 1, 2, 4-year was 90.20%, 91.43% and 92.86%, respectively. The complete remission rate for more than 4 years was 71.43%. “Yiqi Huoxue Huashi Project” reduced urinary protein excretion and increased plasma albumin level, without significant differences compared with control group. The analysis of 128 cases of nephrotic syndrome patients showed that the total effective rate in Chinese herbs group(49 cases) reached 85.71%, without significant difference compared with control group(79 cases) which reached 82.28% . Conclusion: The therapeutic effect of “Yiqi Huoxue Huashi Project” is definite, with low relapse rate and no side effect. Chinese herbs play an important role in the treatment of intractable nephrotic syndrome.
