Objectives To report the clinical experience s of simultaneous hepatorenal transplantation1 Methods We performed simultaneous hepatorenal transplantation in one patient with liver cirrho sis of hepatitis B and uremia of chronic nephritis on February 1, 1999 and one patient with liver cirrho sis of hepatitis B complicated by hepatorenal syndrome on March 12, 19991 The donors were heart arre st ca se s1 Rapid multiple organ harve sting technique s and UW solution infusion in situ were used1 Liver and kidney transplantation were orthotopic and ordinary methods, re spectively1 Immuno suppre ssive drugs consisted of cyclo sporine, Cellcept, ALG and cort stco steroids1 Lamividine was used on day 50 and day 40 po stoperation, re spectively1 Re s ult s Both transplanted organs rapidly achieved normal function po stoperation and the patient s recovered well but suffered mild kidney rejection day 110 po stoperation in No 1 patient1 In No 2 patient, acute renal function failure, mental symptoms, muscle spa sm, cerebral artery thrombo sis, inhalation pneumonia and chronic liver graft rejection ensured sequentially but were controlled1 The patients have survived for more than nine and eight months, re spectively, with normal life quality1 Conclusions Combined hepatorenal transplant is a radical treatment method for liver and kidney function failure and require s more comprehensive technique s than isolated single organ transplantation1 Preventing the recurrence of hepatitis B by oral lamividine may be a key to long-term survival.
