工业自动化专家。1940年出生于浙江诸暨, 1964年毕业于浙江大学化工自动化专业。1995年当选中国工程院院士。现任民盟中央常委、浙江省人大副主任、浙江省民盟主委,并担任浙江大学工业自动化国家工程研究中心主任、浙江大学现代控制工程研究所所长,教授、博士生导师。主要研究方向为复杂工业过程建模、控制与优化,工厂综合自动化系统,大型装备自动化成套系统,鲁棒控制理论及应用。他在现代控制工程技术领域成就卓著,开创了我国第一个国家工程研究中心,成为全国第一个具有博士点、博士后流动站、二个国家重点学科、国家重点实验室、国家工程研究中心等五星级学科单位。在科研成果方面提出并为国家采纳的“中国工业过程自动化高技术产业化重大专项”等2项,曾主持“工业过程建模、控制与优化商品化工程软件”等国家级重大项目4项、专题42项,省部级重大项目8项,获“现场总线控制系统”等国家科技进步二、三等奖各1项,“培养高级应用型人才的必由之路”等国家优秀教学成果奖2项,“不确定系统鲁棒控制应用理论研究”等省部级科技进步一、二等奖12项,出版“现代控制理论的工程应用”、“造纸过程建模与控制”等专著、编著15部,发表论文450余篇、被SCI、EI收录150余篇,“超薄型纸纸张水份仪”等专利7项。先后获全国教育系统劳动模范、人民教师奖章、全国优秀科技工作者、全国有突出贡献中青年专家等称号。

The Dahlin controller is studied in the complex-frequency domain in terms of performance and robust stability. Several well known digital control algorithms are compared with the Dahlin controller and found to be equivalent to it. The possibility of extending the Dahlin controller to the control of plants with zeros outside the unit circle and unstable plants is discussed. The essential cause of ringing is investigated and some ambiguous formulation is clarified. A new procedure is developed for digital controller design. Compared with conventional methods, it provides a more effective method of eliminating ringing. Finally, numerical examples are given to illustrate the new approach.

In this note, the static output feedback simultaneous stabilization problem is addressed using a matrix inequality approach. A necessary and sufficient condition for simultaneous stabilizability of r proper MIMOplants via static output feedback is obtained. It is proven that the existence of a stabilizing feedback gain which simultaneously stabilizes this set of plants is equivalent to that of the solution of a set of coupled quadratic matrix inequalities. An iterative LMI (ILMI) algorithm based on the linear matrix inequality technique is proposed to obtain the feedback gain. Illustrated examples show its effectiveness.

The paper deals with the robust H∞ control problem for uncertain linear systems with multiple state delays. The parameter uncertainties are time varying and unknown, but are norm-bounded, and the delays are time varying. Based on the LMI approach, a new method for designing a robust memoryless state feedback control law is proposed to stabilise this class of uncertain time-delay systems, and to reduce the effect of the disturbance input on the controlled output to a prescribed level for all admissible uncertainties. The results depend on the size andthe varying rate of the delays and may be less conservative.

ln this paper, the conventional Smith predictor is modified, which leads to significant improvements in its regula- tory capacities for reference inputs and disturbances. The proposed modification utilizes the existing prediction of the conventional time delay compensator and decouples the set- point response from the disturbance response. The setpoint response and the disturbance response of the closed-loop system are adjusted by two parameters, respectively. This allows the designer to optimize them simultaneously. Illustrative examples are provided to show the advantages of the modified scheme.

The optimal service control of an unreliable manufacturing system with random demands is discussed. The system can produce many part types. The objective is to find an optimal policy to minimizing the expected discounted inventory and backlog cost. Structural properties of the optimal control are investigated. It is shown that the optimal policy is of switching structure. For producing one part type case, the optimal control is a threshold policy. For producing two part types case, the optimal control can be described by three monotone switching curves and its asymptote properties are derived. In this paper, the simultaneous stabilization problem isconsidered using the matrix inequality approach. Some necessary andsufficient conditions for simultaneous stabilizability of r strictly propermulti-input/multi-output (MIMO) plants via static output feedback andstate feedback are obtained in the form of coupled ARI's. It is shown thatany such stabilizing feedback gain is the solution of some coupled linearquadratic control problems where every cost functional has a suitablecross term. A heuristic iterative algorithm based on the linear matrixinequality (LMI) technique is presented to solve the coupled matrixinequalities. The effectiveness of the approach is illustrated by numericalexamples.

In this paper, the static output feedback decentralized stabilization problem is addressed using a linear matrix inequality approach. A necessary and su cient condition for static output feedback decentralized stabilizability is derived for linear time-invariant large-scale systems. It is proven that the existence of a stabilizing decentralized gain is equivalent to that of the solution of a quadratic matrix inequality. The extension of the result to H∞ control is studied. An iterative LMI algorithm based on the linear matrix inequality technique is proposed to obtain the decentralized feedback gain. Examples show the effectiveness of the algorithm.

The problem considered here is to find the optimal service control policy for a serial production line with n failure- prone workstations and random demand. The processing times of the part in workstations are exponentially distributed, and the service rates are controllable if the workstations are up. The objective function is the expected discounted cost caused by inventories of work-in-process and inventory or backlog of finished products. It is shown that the optimal policy is of bang-bang type and can be determined by a set of switching manifolds. For a given state of the workstations, one manifold determines the optimal decision of one workstation while it is up. The monotonicity and asymptotic behaviors of the mani- folds are investigated. The relationship of the manifolds under different workstation states is studied, i.e. the more the worksta- tions are down, the lower the switching manifolds locate in the state space. Based on the structural properties of the switching manifolds, some simple suboptimal policies are proposed, which are quite easy to implement in practical systems. Numeric exam- ples are given to illustrate the results.

This paper considers a manufacturing system with multiple operational modes producingone part type. The part processing time at each operational mode is exponentiallydistributed and its rate is controllable. The demand arrival is random and described by aPoisson process. By minimizing an in finite-horizon discounted expected cost function,the optimal service rate control is derived. It is proved that the optimal policy is of ahedging point structure by examining the properties of the optimal cost function such asconvexity, monotonicity and asymptotic behaviours. The hedging points at diVerentoperational modes can be ordered according to their production capacities. The relationshipsof the hedging points with some system parameters are presented. Thesestructural properties of the optimal control policy are helpful in finding simple andrealistic suboptimal policies for practical manufacturing systems. A numerical exampleis given to demonstrate our results.

A recent paper (Ref. 1) established a new approach to estimate the robust stability radius of a Schur polynomial. This note points out that the approach given in Ref. 1 is not correct and also gives a counterexample to the main result of Ref. 1.
