孙宝德,国务院材料科学与工程学科评议组成员,著名金属材料工程专家,“国家杰出青年科学基金”获得者,上海交通大学材料科学与工程学院院长、博士生导师。在铝合金纯净化与微细化、高温合金大型铸件精密成型等领域开展了较为系统的研究。从理论上揭示出熔体中微细夹杂物的电磁分离新机制并实现产业化应用;澄清了铝合金中TiB2粒子形核机制的争议;研制出我国首台自主知识产权的6N高纯铝提纯设备并实现产业化;提出大型铸件缺陷形成机理与精度控制方法,实现浇注系统设计和精度控制从经验模式向理论模式转变,为航空发动机研制出关键部件的精密铸造技术,试制的铸件获得成功应用。主持973项目、863项目、大飞机重大专项材料项目、配套项目、国家自然基金重点项目、大科学仪器项目等项目50余项。发表SCI论文200余篇,获国家发明专利100余项和国际发明专利1项。获国家技术发明二等奖1项,上海市技术发明一等奖3项。

研究了稀土镧和钇对过共晶铝硅合金的微观组织和力学性能的影响。实验合金为Al-22%Si,所加稀土为富镧混合稀土(含80%L a)和Al-88%Y中间合金,加入量分别为0.6%~1.4%L a和0.10%~0.18%Y。合金熔化精炼后在预热至250℃的金属型中浇铸成Φ12mm×60mm试棒,浇注温度740℃。高温力学性能测试300℃下保温30min后的拉伸强度。实验结果表明:单独加入稀土不能细化初晶硅,结合磷的作用,镧、钇可实现初晶硅和共晶硅的双重变质,其中初晶硅可细化至22Lm左右;适量La可形成有利于提高高温性能的Al5SiCu2La化合物;Y可以有效地抑制该化合物长成粗大针状。经淬火及稳定化回火热处理后,合金室温抗拉强度可达276MPa,高温强度可达174MPa。

针对材料产业的现状和发展趋势,提出了生态材料学的概念,即生态材料学是关于材料及材料循环过程与生态环境相互作用的科学,其目的在于使材料在满足所需性能的前提下,具有优良的生态环境协调性。分析了生态材料学的基本思想和主要研究内容,给出了环境负荷表达式和材料科学与工程的新判据。以铝合金熔体纯净化生态处理工艺为例,指出了材料科学与工程的发展方向。

Several methods using the concept of electromagnetic separation of nonmetallic inclusions from an aluminum melt were analytically studied and compared in this article. The migration rate of inclusion particles for each method by exerting different types of electromagnetic field, viz. DC electric field with steady magnetic field, AC magnetic field, and AC electric field, was calculated and compared with the gravity settling velocity. Effects of various operating parameters, such as the imposing time of electromagnetic field, the radius of circular pipe, and the magnitude of electromagnetic force, on inclusion removal efficiency were analyzed and illustrated for each case. It was found that the removal efficiency increases with the increase of imposing time and decreases dramatically with the increase of pipe radius, especially for the AC electric field method. As far as the removal of small inclusions is concerned, the AC magnetic field method is the most favorable one because it has the least dependence of removal efficiency upon the particle size. However, high frequency is needed in order to get the optimum results, and the best values of a/δ are in the range of 2 to 3.

Effects of secondary flow of the melt on the separation of inclusions from molten aluminum flowing in a square channel by a solenoid were investigated theoretically and experimentally. Numerical methods were used to calculate the secondary flow, the separation efficiency of inclusions, and the particle motion. It is found that there appear two recirculating loop flows in a quarter cross section of the channel and the separation efficiency of inclusions is significantly improved by the secondary flow mainly owing to the mixing effect. The separation efficiency increases with the increase of the effective magnetic flux density and the frequency of magnetic field, and decreases significantly with the increase of the size of the separator channel for a constant value of a/δ. However, it is possible to achieve high separation efficiency by using argesized square channels and high frequency magnetic field with the help of the mixing effect of secondary flow. The computed results of particle trajectories show that the secondary flow accelerates the transportation of the particles from the inner region to the vicinity of the wall and greatly shortens the separation time of those particles. The effects of secondary flow on the separation efficiency were confirmed by comparing the measured separation efficiency with the computed results.

A new refining method-melt thermal treatment without additive to melt is studied in this paper. Microstructure analysis and property evaluation of hypoeutectic Al-Si alloys treated with this method show that the solidification microstructure can be refined significantly with a considerable increase in elongation ratio and strength. Effects such as cooling rate, holding time and alloy composition on the solidification microstructure and mechanical properties have been evaluated. It is shown that the strengthening and toughening effects on the treated samples vary with alloy composition. The property increment of the alloy rich of iron is relatively more remarkable than those rich of Cu or Mg element. Specifically, the structure of the low temperature melt is identified as a primary factor, on which the solidification structure of the treated melt is dependent.

Anticorrosive properties of borophosphate and boron-free enamels to molten aluminum were investigated using SEM and electron probe. Carbonates of alkali metal and alkaline earth metal were added in an appropriate weight ratio to achieve desired melting temperature of the enamels. SEM examination on the solidified interface between the enamels and aluminum alloy show that the enamels can spread slightly on aluminum alloy. For anticorrosive sample of borophosphate enamel, phosphorus was not detected by electron probe at the side of aluminum alloy near the interface, but silicon was detected in the silica-free enamels side. For the sample of boron-free enamels, however, phosphorus was found at the side of aluminum alloy near the interface. It was revealed that the enamels with high B2O3-P2O5 content have high corrosion resistance to molten aluminum.

The rotating impeller degassing technique was used for degassing of A356 scrap melt which had been protected and purified with an RE-containing JDN-I flux. Results indicated that the modification of eutectic silicon was faded and the mechanical properties of the alloy became worse after rotating impeller degassing and that the tensile strength and elongation of the scrap A356 alloy which was treated with rotating impeller degassing system after having been refined by JDN-I flux decreased by 5.6 and 23.3%, respectively, compared with those of being refined merely with the flux. The mechanism is that the rotating impeller degassing increases the oxygen content and decreases the hydrogen content of the melt, consuming more rare earth from the RE-containing lux. Thus, the content of rare earth that has effect on the modification of eutectic silicon is lower than the critical value. At the same time, the oxide inclusions in the melt increase leading to a drop of mechanical properties of the alloy.

Single-layered coatings of WC-Co and multi-layered coatings of NiCrAl/WC-Co were manufactured by high-velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) and detonation spraying (DS) techniques. The residual stress, mechanical properties, and wear resistance of these coatings were evaluated and the effects of coating structure and spraying method on coating properties were analyzed. Experimental results show that the coatings made by HVOF excel corresponding DS coatings with respect to mechanical and thermal shock properties. Both the spraying method and coating structure affect the residual stress markedly. Compared with the single-layered coatings, multi-layered ones exhibit better wear resistance under light-load conditions.

Gelcasting, an in situ consolidation colloid forming process, is promising for the manufacture of structural ceramics with various shapes. In this case, the gelcasting process was adopted to obtain carbon artifacts with complex shapes. The mesocarbon microbead (MCMB) that has self-sintering property was chosen as the starting material. In order to optimize the MCMB suspensions for gelcasting, the zeta potentials of MCMB particles dispersing in water and the rheological behaviors of MCMB suspensions were investigated. A stable MCMB suspension with solid loading up to 62.5wt.% was prepared, from which uniform green body with complex shape was successfully gelcast. The performance of green bodies and sintered samples were measured and their microstructures were observed.

Various purification methods were explored to eliminate the dissolved hydrogen and nonmetallic inclusious from molten alu minum alloys. A novel rotating impeller head with self-oscillation nozzles or an electromagnetic valve in the gas circuit was used to produce pulse gas currents for the rotary impeller degassing method. Water si mulation results show that the size of gas bubbles can be decreased by 10%-20% as compared with the constant gas current mode. By coating ceramic filters or particles with active flux or enamels, composite filters were used to filter the scrap A356 alloy and pure alu minum. Experimental results de monstrate that better filtration efficiency and operation performance can be obtained. Based on nu merical calculations, the separation efficiency of inclusions by high frequency magnetic field can be significantly improved by using a hollow cylinder like separator or utilizing the effects of secondary flow of the melt in a square separa-tor. A multi-stage and multi-media purification platform based on these methods was designed and applied in on-line pro- cessing of molten aluminum alloys. Mechanical properties of the processed scrap A356 alloy are greatly improved by the composite purification.
