刘艳格,女,1973年4月出生,博士,教授。1998年7月获南开大学光学专业硕士学位,2001年7月获天津大学光学工程专业博士学位;2001年8月至2003年6月南开大学光学专业博士后,之后留校工作并任副研究员;2006年和2007年分别到新加坡南洋理工大学和香港理工大学进行高访和研修; 2008年12月晋升教授,并任博士生导师。目前主要从事光纤光学及光纤光子技术领域方面的研究工作,主要研究内容包括:微纳结构光纤及其应用、光纤激光技术及其应用等方面的理论、实验和器件研究工作。作为课题负责人已主持国家973计划项目1项,国家自然科学基金项目2项,天津市自然科学基金重点项目1项,作为项目骨干参加了国家973项目、国家863项目、国家自然科学基金重点及面上项目、天津市重点基金项目等近十项课题的研究。已在Opt. Lett., Opt. Express、IEEE Photon. Technol. Lett.等高水平学术刊物上录用及发表学术论文一百余篇(其中,第一作者和第二作者(学生第一)文章50余篇),其中SCI索引论文七十余篇,累计他引400余次。取得并鉴定科研成果4项,获2008年度天津市自然科学一等奖1项,2006年度教育部自然科学二等奖1项,2004年度天津市技术发明二等奖1项。2009年入选教育部新世纪优秀人才支持计划。申请专利十余项,已授权6项。

High order resonances between fundamental core mode andcladding LP01 supermodes are demonstrated in long period fiber gratings(LPFGs) inscribed in all-solid photonic bandgap fibers for the first time toour knowledge. The resonance wavelengths of the LPFGs calculated byway of photonic bandgap theory agree with the experimental results. Thetemperature responses of these resonance peaks have been theoretically andexperimentally investigated. In addition, the mechanism of LPFG formationhas been researched deeply through coupled-mode theory (CMT) and thecutback experiments.

A novel multiwavelength erbium-doped fiber laser configurationis proposed and demonstrated. The laser can produce simultaneousfour-wavelength lasing oscillations with a minimum wavelength spacing ofonly 0.36 nm in C-band via using two fiber Bragg gratings written in highbirefringence fiber, while ensuring fairly stable room-temperature operation.The laser can also achieve switching modes among four wavelengths bysimple adjustment of two polarization controllers in the cavities. Theconfiguration is based on the polarization hole burning and overlappingcavities principle. The laser has the advantages of simple all-fiberconfiguration, low cost, high stability and operating at room temperature.

The reflection and transmission characteristics of a high-birefringence fiber loop mirror (HiBi-FLM),which is composed of a standard fiber coupler and one-section or multisection high-birefringence fibers(HBFs), are analyzed and discussed in detail. Theoretical reflectivity and transmissivity expressions forHiBi-FLMs with one-, two-, and three-section HBFs were obtained. The procedure for calculating reflectivityand transmissivity for HiBi-FLMs with n-section HBFs is given. Experimental results have verifiedthe theoretical model. The basic characteristics of the one-section HiBi-FLM when strain and hightemperature are applied to HBFs were analyzed and investigated theoretically and experimentally. Theexperimental results are in good agreement with the theoretical analysis. Furthermore, a strain–temperature sensor that makes use of those characteristics, which is new for applications of HiBi-FLMs,has been proposed and demonstrated.

A suppressant effect for mode competition of multi-wavelengthlasing oscillations induced by deeply saturated effect in an ordinaryerbium-doped fiber ring laser (EDFRL) was observed and experimentallyinvestigated. Results show that the effect is helpful to obtain stablemulti-wavelength lasing at room temperature in the EDFRL, which offers anew and simple approach to achieve stable multi-wavelength EDF lasing.Stable two-and three-wavelength lasing oscillations were achieved based onthe effect in the ordinary EDFRL for the first time to our best knowledge.The multi-wavelength lasing oscillations were so stable integrated oversmaller than 1ms that the maximum power fluctuation over more than 30minutes of observation was less than 0.1 dB and 0.5 dB for two-wavelengthlasing with a spacing of 1.28 nm and 0.76nm, respectively.

We have proposed directional couplers operated by resonantcoupling in all-solid photonic bandgap fibers structure which consist of acladding with an array of high-index rods in silica background, two coresformed by omitting two rods, and some defect rods introduced by reducingthe diameter of the high-index rods between the cores. The resonant effectinduced by the avoided crossing between core-guided supermodes anddefect-guided modes significant decreases the coupling length. Thedirectional couplers proposed in this paper are almost polarizationindependent and have potential application in realizing integrating all-fibercommunication devices

A stable and narrow wavelength spacing multiwavelength erbium-doped fiber laser is proposed and demonstrated. The laser can producesimultaneous dual-and triple-wavelength lasing oscillations with a narrow wavelength spacing of less than 0.1nm via using a singlefiber Bragg gratings written in polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber. By adjusting polarization controller, the wavelength spacing of dualwavelengthlasing oscillations can be tuned to as small as 0.032nm. The maximum amplitude variation for every lasing wavelength is lessthan 0.5 dB. The room-temperature operation principle is based on the polarization hole burning and deeply saturated effect in an ordinaryerbium-doped fiber ring laser (EDFRL). The laser has the advantages of simple all-fiber configuration, low cost, high stability andoperating at room temperature

Long period fiber gratings are fabricated in the cladding rods ofall-solid photonic bandgap fibers (PBGFs) by point-by-point side UVillumination. Resonant couplings from fundamental mode to guided andradiative supermodes (rod modes), and bandgap-like modes are identified.We obtained a detailed insight over the modal and dispersive properties ofthe PBGF through a series of theoretical and experimental investigations onthe spectral characteristics and the responses to temperature and high-indexliquid of the LPGs.

The temperature tuning properties of a liquid crystal (LC) photonic bandgap fiber's bandgap transmissionwas investigated in this study. Because of the special temperature responses of the LC's indices andits phase transition property, the bandgap transmission was found to have different temperature responsesat different temperature ranges below the LC's clearing point temperature. At temperatureslower or higher than the LC's clearing point, the bandgap transmissions are quite different, which permitsswitching with an extinction ratio as large as 45 dB. At temperatures around the LC's clearing point,the bandgap transmission was depressed.
