在南开大学物理系获得理学学士(1991)、理学硕士(1994),在中国科学院物理研究所获得理学博士学位(1997),在同济大学物理系做博士后并工作,历任副教授(2000)、教授(2005)。长期从事光子晶体、左手材料和表面等离激元光学方面研究,发展了金属螺旋周期阵列多重散射和能带理论,解释了这类体系极化禁带的成因,给出了手征负折射理论和实验表征、提出基于金属螺旋宽带波片的构想并予以实验验证,利用平面左手材料实现了宽颇超透射和极化转换、宽频负折射等效应,提出了亚波长电磁波二极管、磁等离激元调控自发辐射和实现理想吸收等等构想,提出并研制了基于左手材料的超薄亚波长谐振腔天线,和系列表面波天线。先后承担国家自然科学基金、国家863高技术专项课题、上海市科委重点项目等十余项课题,并结合国家重大需求和航天、航空等工程单位合作开展了系列应用研究,申请发明专利17项,8项已获得授权,在Phys. Rev. Lett., Phys. Rev. A/B/E,Appl. Phys. Lett.等国际核心学术期刊发表论文约40篇,总引用次数约700次,总他引次数约600次。

By exploiting the reflection phase properties of metamaterial reflectors, the authors propose a ethod to break the size restrictions imposed strictly on conventional cavities. They design the all-dimensional subwavelength cavities and perform experiments and simulations to demonstrate their subwavelength functionalities. For the smallest cavity that they fabricated, each dimension is only a quarter of the resonance wavelength.

We report our experimental and theoretical studies on a metamaterial substrate consisting of a quasi-periodic metallic planr pattern and a flat metal sheet, interconnected through metallic vias.We show that this structure possesses multiple in-phase reflection frequency regimes and spectral gaps for transverse-magnetic surface waves, whereas the transverse-electric surface waves are suppressed in all frequencies. In particular, an antenna put on top of this planar structure radiates with very high directivity sD=240d at some frequencies. This phenomenon is mainly governed by the inhomogeneity of the structure, which is a collective effect of perfect magnetic and electric conductors operating simultaneously at the frequency.

With proper structure, one-dimensional ~1D! binary nonperiodic dielectric multilayers can own compact strucuture and provide widely extended stop band from visible to infrared which is insensitive to the angle of incidence. The striking phenomenon attributes to the combining effect of Bragg reflection and light localization induced by disorder. The characteristic parameters to describe 1D binary nonperiodic dielectric multilayers are well defined. Material parameters of MgF2 and GaP are used to model 1D realistic device. Optimal design is suggested by comparison to binary 10/4 stack reflectors with the same optical length, number of layers and degree of disorder.

Two-dimensional structures of 28328 Teflon cylinders with average periodic square and rectangular latticesare prepared. The far-infrared spectra are measured at high-symmetry points of the structures and for s and pwaves, respectively, and the corresponding photonic bands are calculated. In most cases, the agreement between measurements and calculations is good. The influences of disorder upon the transmission spectra are observed. The unexpected transmission dips at the Mpoint of pwave and the very low transmittance in the high-frequency region are discussed.

We present an experimental study of the formation of two-dimensional optical lattices of titanium dioxide particles. The titanium dioxide particles, with an average size of 0.24mm and a high refractive index of 2.6-2.9 in the visible region, were trapped in the antinodes of a standing-wave field. The shortest lattice constant reached so far is 0.8mm. A corresponding diffraction pattern of the lattice was observed. This is an effort to create a photonic crystal with a lattice constant extended to visible and near-infrared wavelength scales.
