史耀武教授,1940年11月26日生于北京, 汉族, 中共党员, 1959年北京第四中学毕业, 1964年西安交通大学毕业, 毕业后留校任教。1982年在英国 Aston 大学获得博士学位。1985年起任西安交通大学教授。1984年至1995年长期担任西安交通大学机械工程系系主任兼机械工程研究所所长。1990年起任博士生导师, 并创建西安交大焊接专业博士点。1991年由国家教委和劳动人事部授予有突出贡献回国留学人员荣誉证书, 1992年起享受国务院颁发的政府特殊津贴。1995年调入北京工业大学,1997-2001年任材料科学与工程学院院长。兼任中国机械工程学会焊接学会副理事长兼学术工作委员会主任, 中国电工技术学会电焊专业委员会副主任。多种学术期刊及丛书编委。长期从事材料连接及其先进制造技术的研究与开发工作。其中包括材料与工程结构的断裂与疲劳、材料工程问题的建模与模拟、材料连接科学与技术、电子组装材料与技术、材料超声特性与信号处理等。负责或承担了德国大众汽车基金会等单位资助的国际合作项目3项, 国家“七五”和“八五”重点科技攻关5项, 973重大基础研究1项,863项目1项,国家自然科学基金课题6项, 北京市自然科学基金及政府项目7项, 国家教委博士点基金课题2项和多项企业委托的技术开发项目。获得部级科技进步奖5项。在国内外杂志上发表论文400余篇,著作3本,发明专利6项。培养博士生近50名、硕士生40余名。

This paper presents a single-specimen method of evaluating the fracture toughness of nuclear pressure vessel steels by using a small round compact tension (RCT) specimen with deep side-grooves. The method has been used to estimate the fracture toughness parameters of the nuclear pressure vessel steels A508CL3-A, A508CL3-B and A508CL3-A' produced by two plants. A comparison of the measured fracture toughness results has been done among the small RCT specimen, the Charpy-size specimen and the large specimen, which GB2038 and ASTM E813 require. The research results indicate that the fracture toughness values obtained from the RCT specimens with the double-size deep side-grooves have little difference when compared with the valid fracture toughness results. Finally, this paper discusses the possibility of using the RCT specimens in nuclear pressure vessel steel embrittlement surveillance.

Controlling the dissolution of the base metal in the liquid filler metal is very significant for both brazing and soldering processes, in particular for high temperature brazing. A model for quantitatively evaluating the dissolution thickness of base metal in liquid brazing filler metal is established, that produces consistent predictions with experiment.

Basedon a CEGB/R6 two-parameter fracture analysis approach, the present studyhas proposed theoretical formulae to predict the elastic-plastic fracture toughness requirement of structures with both homogeneous materials and mismatched weldments. The fracture toughness requirement of homogeneous material structures is mainly related to the yield strength of materials, applied stress, stress concentration, residual stress and postulated crack size. However, the fracture toughness requirement of mismatched weld metal is also related to the mismatched strength of welds. It is expected that the formulae are suitable for predicting the elastic-plastic fracture toughness requirement of most welded structures including pressure vessels and piping.

The ductile fracture of structural steel including weldment can be described as a progressive process with void nucleation, growth and coalescence. The effects of mechanical heterogeneity of the weldment were investigated experimentally on the ductile fracture behaviors of the base metal and the weld metal using round-bar tensile notched bars. The results show that the mechanical heterogeneity of weldment has certain effects on fracture strain, stress triaxiality at fracture, critical void growth and the material constant C. The smaller the distance between the notch root and the fusion line, the larger the fracture stain, the smaller the stress triaxiality and the larger the critical void growth rate.

For the estimation of fracture mechanics parameters of cracked weldment with mechanical heterogeneity, there exist equivalent yielding stress and equivalent strain hardening exponents in the vicinity of the crack tip keeping the assessment of fracture mechanics parameters of weldment in the same way as the homogeneous material. In this paper, the factors such as width of weld, matching property, stress condition, and the mechanical properties of base metal and weld metal affecting the equivalent yielding stress and equivalent strain hardening exponents are carefully studied. The results show that the width of weld and matching property of weldment have a strong effect on the equivalent parameters while the stress condition has little effect on the equivalent parameters. Furthermore, the two equivalent parameters change independently from each other.

Use of a precracked and side-grooved Charpy-size specimen is an economical and convenient single-specimen method of evaluating the elastic-plastic fracture toughness of nuclear pressure vessel steels. This paper has studied the influence of side-groove depth on fracture toughness and stable increment of crack on several pressure vessel steels in detail. Test results are compared with those of large-size specimens which the National Standard of China (i.e. GB 2038) requires. The research results indicate that using a precracked Charpy-size specimen with side-groove depth 30% and adopting the energy before themaximum load of a three-point bending test curve, the elastic-plastic fracture toughness of materials can be evaluated conservatively when the crack begins to propagate, and the reasonable design of a Charpy-size specimen for fracture toughness tests in nuclear surveillance has been established. At the same time, the constraint effect and thickening action of the side-groove on a Charpy-size specimen have also been discussed, and theoretically explained.

Induction pressure welding is often used to manufacture the butt joint of thc steam pipes of power plant. However, the so-called white speck sometimes appears on the fractography in the checked sample weld. The white speck mav, lead to fracture or bursting of the steam pipes during high temperature operation. The resuhs of this investigation indicate that the white speck implies a weak linkage between the ends to be welded. In order to decrease the white-speck region on the fractographs, it is necessary to increase the upsetting or the heat input. At the same time, the abutting ends should be machined or ground to a smooth clean surface. On the basis of the results of the experiments, two kinds of physical bonding models of butt joints and three types of dimple models of fractography have been proposed, revealing the essence or the welding process and the forming mechanism of white speck.

A two-dimensional transient model is introduced to describe the heat transfer and fluid flow in pulsed current gas tungsten welding arc (GTA). In the model, a boundary fitted coordinate system is adopted to describe precisely the cathode shape. The current-continuity equation has been solved with the combined arc plasma-cathode system, independent of the assumption of the current density distribution on the cathode surface, which was essential in previous studies of the arc plasma. The temperature distribution in pulsed GTA welding has been described and the transition processes of temperature contours and arc pressures at the anode center have been studied. Moreover, the effects of pulsed welding parameters on the dynamic processes of the arc pressure at the anode center have been studied using the developed model, the results being compared with experimental data measured by the micro-pressure sensor.

Weak bonding defects, which are special defects occurring in solid-state welded joints, are very dangerous. These defect cannot be detected effectively with normal ultrasonic testing methods used in industry, because the signal reflected from such a defect is so weak that may be overshadowed by the scattering noise from surrounding materials. In this paper, a simple model for an ultrasonic non-destructive testing of friction-welded joints, which contain joints with weak bonding defects and without any welded defect, is proposed. According to the model, it is found that the amplitude frequency characteristic of the ultrasonic signals of the joints with various qualities is apparently different. According to the information provided by the model on the ultrasonic signals, an algorithm based on the wavelet transform is proposed. Experimental data for the friction-welded specimens show encouraging defect detection capabilities from the use of the algorithm.

The microshear toughness, mode I and mode II fracture toughness and their relationships have been investigated for pressure vessel steels and structural steels with the yield-strength-grade in a range of 300-1100MPa, by microshear test and three-point bending as well as asymmetric four-point bending tests combining FE analysis. The influence of orientation or anisotropy of materials on microshear toughness and fracture toughness has also been clarified. Results show that the orientation and anisotropy of materials have much less influence on mode II fracture toughness, whilst the stronger influence can be seen on mode I fracture toughness. There exists a good linear correlation between normalised mode II fracture toughness and microshear toughness, and the mode II fracture toughness estimated by a correlation equation is very close to experimental results. It is expected that a microshear test may be used to evaluate mode II elastic-plastic fracture toughness of materials in particular for welded joints.
