苏翼凯,毕业于美国西北大学电子与计算机工程系。1999年(部分时间)于美国贝尔实验室光网络研究部任研究员(MTS I),2001年起于美国贝尔实验室光网络研究部任高级研究员 (MTS)。在贝尔实验室工作期间作为负责人之一开展了160G新型码型研究,实验结果发表在一系列国际公认的高层次的光通信期刊和国际会议上。2004年作为学科带头人及责任教授引进上海交通大学,负责一系列资助项目,包括国家新世纪人才计划、国家自然科学基金及上海市光科技专项等。同年被聘为国家863计划“高性能宽带信息网”重大专项光传输任务组专家。担任多个国际会议技术委员会委员(IEEE 激光与电光年会(IEEE Laser and Electro-Optic Society 2005)、国际光通信网络会议(International Conference of Optical Communication Networks 2004)、国际通信/电路/系统会议(International Conference of Communications,Circuits and Systems 2005及2004)。北京航空航天大学客座教授,863重大专项任务组专家。发表SCI国际期刊论文30篇,国际会议论文40余篇。先后做8次国际会议邀请报告和3次Postdeadline报告(截止期后破格论文),申请4项美国专利(授权一项)。

We report single-channel 40-Gb/s signal transmission over nonzero dispersion-shifted fiber using an integrated electroabsorption-modulated laser in the transmitter for data modulation. Return-to-zero format pseudolinear transmission over 1200 km is achieved with a measured of 15.6 dB or bit-error rate of 10-9.

We demonstrate two 160-Gb/s modulation formats that posses the same intensity pulse profile but differ regarding their phase coding. We analyze the nonlinear transmission properties of both coherent modulation formats by experimental and analytical investigations. The results show that the pairwise alternating phase coded carrier suppressed return-to-zero (PAP-CSRZ) signal outperforms the nventional CSRZ format. Our modulation technique is even applicable at higher speed as demonstrated with the generation of the first CSRZ signal at a record rate of 320 Gb/s.

This paper presents a high-resolution (13.2 GHz) channel-blocking optical filter, suitable for use as a reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM), which seamlessly supports data rates from 2.5 to 160 Gb/s. The filter consists of a linear array of 64 MEMS micromirrors and a high-dispersion echelle grating. The demonstrated device had an insertion loss of 9 dB, a loss ripple of 1.2 dB, and a group delay ripple of 15 ps. Data transmission through the device with various mixed data rate scenarios ranging from 2.5 to 160 Gb/s showed negligible penalty, except at 40 Gb/s where a maximum penalty of 1.5 dB was observed due to a phase coherence with the blocker filter ripple.

We report a simple and effective method to reduce the switching time of a semiconductor tunable laser.We perform simulation and experiment to investigate the limitation in achieving fast switching. A low output-impedance driver is used to effectively reduce the settling time of the diode current of the laser tuning section.

We report a hierarchical optical add-drop multiplexer (OADM) network that supports 10-, 40-, and 160-Gb/s data rates with the same bandwidth efficiency. The data rates can be upgraded without hardware modification in the OADM. This hierarchical OADM network is equipped with high capacity (1.6 Tb/s) for traffic growth, while providing different granularities for diverse bandwidth requirements as fine as 12.5GHz in optical domain. We investigate the transmission penalty through the waveband OADMs, and compare the performance between all-through traffic and add-drop traffic of neighboring wavebands at 40-Gb/s rate.

We investigate 40-Gb/s return-to-zero signal transmission in a transparent optical network equipped with wavelength-selective optical cross connects (WSOXCs). The investigation is performed in a recirculating loop setup consisting of 4100-km spans of transmission fiber. A WSOXC is placed inside the loop to mimic cascaded WSOXCs with a spacing of 400kmz. We study various degradation effects in the system, particularly those of node loss and optical filtering. value measurements of the received signal were carried out at different transmission distances and WSOXC loss conditions. A value of 15.5dB was measured at 1200-km distance with two cascaded WSOXCs of which the node loss is 17dB.

Abstract-We experimentally investigate the ability of an alloptical 2R regenerator to suppress impairments caused by intrachannel four-wave mixing (IFWM) and intrachannel cross-phase modulation (IXPM), which are the two dominant nonlinear effects in 40-Gb/s pseudolinear transmission systems. The 2R regenerator suppresses amplitude fluctuations and shadow pulses induced by IFWM in 80-kmansmission over standard single-mode fiber, allowing an increase of signal power by 3dB. However, theregenerator shows little improvement for an 80-km TrueWave RS fiber, where timing jitter originating from IXPM dominates.

We demonstrate a method to extend the dynamic range (DR) of 10-Gb/s differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) receivers in presence of burst-mode data. We achieve a DR of 25dB by operating linear optical amplifiers in saturation and benefiting from fast optical-limiting amplification. A fixed decision threshold as enabled by DPSK receivers with balanced detection eliminates the need for guard times and removes inherent sensitivity penalty associated with the adaptive threshold as in conventional ON-OFF keying receivers.
