Based on the Curson-Tvergaard void damage plastic potential equation and by using orthogonal rules of plastic material, the influence of void volume fraction on stress and strain fields was introduced into Levy2Mises flow rules. The variation principle of rigid plastic material with void degradation was demonstrated. Furthermore, FEM equations coupled with damage factor were presented to study the void growth and the criterion to judge the damage was also given. Using the developed system, the fine blanking process was simulated and the sheared surface of the part edge was predicted. Meanwhile, the influence of process parameters, such as punch-die clearance, V-ring force, counter force, radius of punch and die edges, on the height and quality of the sheared surface was analyzed. The calculation results were compared with the experiments, which can be used to guide the design of fine2blanking process.

In order to continuously analyze the whole fine-blanking process, from the beginning of the ooperation up to the total rupture of the sheet-meta, without computational divergenec, a 3-Drigid visro-plastic element method based on Gurson void model was developed. The void volume fraction wasintrodced into the fineite elment anethod to document to the virtual work theory in which both the sheet was prodicted and the crack propagation was geometrically fulfilled in the simulation by separating the nodes according the stress state. Furthermore the influences of different state-variables on the defomation process were also studied.

The anisotropy of stamped sheet metal exerts evident effects on the formability. Barlat aix-component yield function was introduced into theelastoplastic finite element formulation based on the principle of virtual velocity and the discrete Kirehhoff triangular element model. The flanging earing in cylindrical capdrawing process of circular sheet metal was aumerically simulatad. Th influence of anisotropy on the forming process was studied.

The finite element method (FEM) and the finite volume method (FVM) nurmeircal sinrmalation methods have been widely used in forging industries to imrovethe quality of products and reduce the costs. Because of very concentrative largedeformation during the aluminum extrusion processes, it is very difficult to simulate the whole forming process only by using either FEM or FVM. In order to solve this problem, an FEM and FVM compoun simulation method was proposed. The theoretical equation of the compound sinmulation method were given and the key techniques were studied Then, the cofiguration of the compound simulation system was estabished. The tube extrusion process was simulated successfully so as to prove the validity of this approach for aluminum extusion processes.

Springback of sheet metal induced by elastic recovery is one of major defects in sheet metal forming processed. Springback is influenced by many factors including properties of the sheet material and processing conditions. In this paper, springback simulation is conducted and comparisons between results based on different processing variables are illustrated. Furthermore, the discovery of knowledge of the effects of geometry and process parameters on springback from FEM results becomes increasingly important, as the number of numerical simulation has grown exponentially. Data mining is an effective tool to realize knowledge discovery in simulation results. In the present paper, a data-mining algorithm, rough sets theory (RST), is applied to analyze the effects of process parameters on springback in U-bending.

A rate-inderpendent polyerystallme plasticity constitutive model considering sclf and latent hardening was develped. Next, a new orientation probabillity assignment method was proposed and the crystal orientations were assigned to FE integration points, which reprcenet crystals and can rotate individually. Then eup drwing of FCC aluninum sheet was studied usig erystalline plasticity finite fimite element analysis. The results show that the validity of proposed model is proved throuth compatison bet ween numerical results and experimental. Aluminum alloy profile parts are widely used in the fields of aviation, equipment, automobile and ornamental industries. The construction method for "zero die trial" intelligent design system of aluminum extrusion die was studied based on KBE idea. An object-oriented knowledge language AEKL(Aluminum Extrusion Knowledge Language) was developed to construct intelligent knowledge model with three methods, frame, parameters and rules. On the aspect of knowledge reasoning, case-based reasoning was employed in addition to traditional rule-based reasoning method. API provided by CAD N17platform was used in geometry disposal. Finally, the corresponding protoyping system was established and an design example was shown.

Blank layout is one of the most imporant processes in stamping die design. As the major cost in sheet metal stamping is te material cost, any efforts to minimise the scrap may result in substantial savings not only in strip material, but also in overall production. This paper is maily trageted at establishing a practical blank layou optimisation system forstamping die by using AutoCAD's ObjiectARX toolkit. The basic principles of blank layout optimistaion are first descrbed. Not only a suitable algorithm for layout calculation, but also the manufacturing requirements an user operation are fully considered in this system. Finally, an algorithm for blank shape offsetting is proposed to solve the problem of selfintersection in offset curves, andd the traditional' I-step translation' algorithm for the caluction of layout parameters is improved to eliminatte the confilic between preecsion and efficiency in the layout optimisation.

Experiments dealing with the upsetting of sintered materials have resulted in the determination of a forming limit in terms of the local copressive and tenslis. As the specimen is comperessed, a plot of tensile strain versus compressive strain can be made. Fracture occurs when the strain parth intersects the forming limit. Once the fracture locus is defined by an experimental method, it is possible to use the Finite Element Method to determine if some upsetting operation will exhibit a free surface crack during a deformation process. In this study, a finite element program has been developed to analyze the deformation processes of sintered metals in upesetting. At the same time, products are inverstigated. The locus strains are then calualted and possible defects leading to material failure are checked. The calculated results argree well with the experimental results.

The extraction of knowledge from simulation results is becoming increasingly important, as numerical simulation is being widely used in the engineering design process. Knowledge extraction systems face challenging problems as the databases of simulation results tend to be dynamic, incomplete, redundant, sparse, and very large. This paper describes a novel approach for handling them. A consistent object-oriented data model for finite-element analysis results has been created usingEXPRESS-G, which has facilitated the construction of a database for the knowledge mining procedure. After briefly introducing Rough Sets Theory (RST) and principal component analysis (PCA), this paper investigates the capabilities andimplementation of both methods for extracting knowledge from simulation results. The methodology developed has been applied to a real application in sheet metal forming simulation and the results are presented.
