柳林教授,男,1984年毕业于华中理工大学材料科学与工程系,获工学学士学位;1992年毕业于中科院固体物理所获理学硕士学位,1999年毕业于华中理工大学材料科学与工程学院,获工学博士学位。1984~1993年在中科院固体所工作;1993~1996年在意大利新技术、能源、环境研究中心(ENEA)作合作研究(Research Fellow);1997.6~1997.12在新加坡国立大学作合作研究;1998年回国后被引进到华中理工大学工作,2000 年被破格晋升为教授,同年被聘为博士生导师。其间,于2002~2004年在香港理工大学作合作研究(Research Fellow)。2003年入选教育部《优秀青年教师资助计划》,2004年入选教育部《新世纪优秀人才支持计划》。曾应邀作为国际学术期刊Journal of Non-crystalline Solids和国内学术期刊 Journal of Materials Science and Technology,Journal of Wuhan University of Technology,《科学通报》,《物理学报》,《金属学报》(中、英版)等刊物的审稿人。自2000年以来应邀作为国家自然科学基金同行评审人。
柳林教授多年来一直致力于新型亚稳材料的研究与开发,曾从事急冷非晶合金的形成、结构和性能;机械驱动下合金的亚稳相变;纳米材料的制备、结构和应用等课题的研究。在机械驱动下材料的亚稳相变和新型块体金属玻璃形成和结构方面做出较突出贡献,研究成果受到国内外同行的广泛关注。近五年来,先后获得3项国家自然科学基金,一项教育部博士点专项基金,一项香港RGC基金和一项香港理工大学合作研究基金,以及多项来自于省市高新企业课题。柳林教授已在国内外重要学术期刊上发表论文60余篇,其中被SCI收录45篇,被EI收录37篇,被ISTP收录4篇。经检索Web of Science,截至2004年底所发表的论文被SCI期刊引用不少于160次。

应用同步辐射小角x射线散射和差示扫描量热分析对块体非Zr55 Cu30 Al10 Ni5晶合金结构弛豫进行了研究实验结果表明:经340℃、不同时司退火后的非晶内部的电子密度涨落随退火时司的延长先增大而后减小;玻璃转变温度附近焓弛豫峰的表观激活能则随退火时司的延长先减小而后增大结果反映了随退火时司的延长,块体非晶台金内部类液体区不断减少及类固体区不断增加的过程

The oxidation behavior of Zr55 Cu30 Al10 Ni5 bulk metallic glass in air in the glassy state and the supercooled liquid state was studied using a thermogravimetric analyzer, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Itwas found that the isothermal oxidation kinetics of the glass in both states follows a two-step parabolic law. The oxidation process is governed by the inward diffusion of oxygen and the outward diffusion of Cu, with the first being dominant. The faster diffusion of atoms in the supercooled liquid state led to a network precipitation of crystalline Cu, and the crystallization that occurred in this state in the later stage of oxidation caused a reduction in the rate of oxidation. Two types of Zr oxides, i.e. t-ZrO2 and m-ZrO2, were formed in the oxidation process in both the glassy and supercooled liquid states. t-ZrO2 mainly formed in the outer layer of the oxide scale, while m-ZrO2 tended to form in the inner layer. The formation of m-ZrO2 is possibly activated by the crystallization of the glass near the interface of the oxide scale and the substrate alloy. In addition, oxidation also has a substantial effect on the formation of crystallized phases. The formation of a Cu-rich phase of Cu10Zr7 occurred in the oxidizing atmosphere. However, the formation of a Zr-rich phase of Zr2(Ni, Cu) mainly took place in a vacuum environment.

Academy of Sciences, 100039 Beijing, People's Republic of China In this paper, positron annihilation spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry were applied to study the structural relaxation of Pd40 Cu30 Ni10 P20 bulk metallic glass during long-time annealing at 523K. It was found that the relaxation of the alloy follows a two-stage process. In the initial stage, with increasing annealing time, the height of the glass transition peak (namely cp) increased, while the average positron lifetime decreased. The isothermal relaxation kinetics obeys a Kohlrausch law with exponent of β=0.5±0.03. However, when the annealing time is beyond 32 h, the height of the glass transition peak (cp) decreased, and the average positron lifetime increased. This is possibly due to the enhancement of the topological short-range ordering, which results in the generation of new defects on the interfaces between the solid-like regions and the liquid-like regions in amorphous phase. The experimental results were tentatively discussed in terms of free-volume theory and percolation theory.

Zr65 Ni10 Cu7.5 Al7.5 Ag10 bulk metallic glass was prepared by copper-mould casting. The kinetics and structure related to the phase transformation of the bulk metallic glass were studied by X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). It was found that the Zr65 Ni10 Cu7.5 Al7.5 Ag10 bulk metallic glass exhibits a distinct glass transition followed by twoexothermic reactions, with the first reaction being the amorphous-to-quasicrystalline transformation, and the second being the quasicrystalline-to-Zr2 Cu intermetallic transformation. The isothermal kinetics for amorphous-to-quasicrystalline transformation was quantitatively analyzed in the framework of JMA equation. The parameter of local Avrami exponent was introduced to explain the details of nucleation and growth behaviour in the transformation. It was revealed that the local Avrami exponent for the transformation varied with an increase in the volume fraction transformed, indicating that multi-mechanisms were involved in the transformation. TEM observations demonstrated that the variation in transformation kinetics at different stages is most likely the result of the structural inhomogeneity in the as-cast bulk metallic glass caused by a temperature gradient along the radius direction during casting. q 2004 Elsevier Ltd. The amorphous Zr64 Ni36, Zr60 Ni25 Al15, Zr65 Ni10 Cu17.5 Al7.5, and Zr63 Ni10 Cu17.5 Al7.5 C2 alloys were successfully synthesized by mechanical alloying of pure element powders. The structural evaluation of powder mixtures in the process of milling was monitored by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The thermal stability of the amorphous alloys obtained and the compositional effects on the glass forming ability were analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry. It was found that, except for Zr64 Ni36, other three amorphous alloys exhibit a distinct glass transition and wide supercooled liquid region ranging from 63 to 82℃. The amorphous Zr60 Ni25 Al15 alloy exhibits the highest glass transition and crystallization temperatures, while the amorphous Zr63 Ni10 Cu17.5 Al7.5 C2 phase shows the largest supercooled liquid region. The results demonstrate that addition of appropriate amounts of C extends the supercooled liquid region of Zr-Ni-based amorphous alloys. The effect of the C addition on the glassforming ability of Zr-Ni-based systems is discussed.

The microprocesses of the amorphous-to-quasicrystalline transformation in Zr65 Ni10 Cu7.5 Al7.5 Ag10 bulk metallic glass were studied in detail by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high-resolution TEM (HRTEM). It was found that the amorphous-to-quasicrystalline transformation in the present system undergoes a series of interprocesses and follows the sequence of the phase transformation of amorphous !FCC Zr2Ni!Tetragonal Zr2Ni!Tetragonal Zr2Ni with a domain structure !Quasicrystals. HRTEM indicated that a domain structure with a high density of stacking faults was formed in the sample at the stage just prior to the formation of quasicrystals. This special structure seems to possess the structural symmetries similar to those of icosahedral quasicrystals. Nanobeam energy dispersive x-ray spectrum revealed that atomic diffusion was involved in all interprocesses of the phase transformations. This suggests that the amorphous-to-quasicrystalline transformation in the present bulk metallic glass is a nonpolymorphous reaction.

Two Zr65 Ni10 Cu7.5 Al7.5 Ag10 cast alloys, one fully amorphous and the other partially amorphous, were prepared by copper-mould casting The phase transformations in the two alloys were investigated by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential canning calorimetry (DSC), optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The DSC trace obtained during continuous heating shows two distinct exothermic reactions in each alloy. The first one corresponds to the formation of a quasicrystalline phase from the amorphous matrix, while the second reaction results from the formation of a supersaturated Zr2Cu-like phase from the previously formed quasicrystals. A shrinkage of the quasicrystal lattice during annealing was observed, which is possibly caused by the relaxation of pre-formed quasicrystals and primarily formation of a little amount of Zr2Cu-like phase along the grain-boundaries of the quasicrystals. The amorphous-to-quasicrystalline transformation kinetics of the two Zr65Ni10Cu7.5Al7.5Ag10 cast alloys was studied by differential scanning calorimetry in the mode of continuous heating and isothermal annealing. The details of the nucleation and growth behaviors during quasicrystallization are discussed in terms of local Avrami exponent.

Zr65 Ni10 Cu7.5 Al7.5 Ag10 bulk metallic glass with a diameter of 2mm was prepared by copper-mould casting. The microstructures of the bulk alloy were examined by X-ray diffraction, optical microscopy and high-resolution electron microscopy. It was found that the structure of the bulk metallic glass formed by copper-mould casting is actually not homogeneous, but composed of three different regions: a purely amorphous portion which makes up the major part of the bulk sample; a second portion containing a few of very small particles in the amorphous matrix, and a third portion consisting of the quasicrystals in the amorphous matrix. The formation of quasicrystal during casting of the melt involved the inward diffusion of Zr and outward diffusion of Ni and Cu. The icosahedral short-range order is likely to have already existed in the glassy state of Zr65Ni10Cu7.5Al7.5Ag10 alloy after casting.

In this paper, the effect of temperature on the isothermal crystallization of Zr55 Cu30 Al10Ni5 bulk metallic glass in the glass transition region was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. It was found that the crystallization behaviour of Zr55Cu30Al10Ni5 bulk metallic glass strongly depends on the annealing temperature. The crystallization follows a diffusion-controlled growth mechanism with the formation of a dendritic-like structure in the high temperature region from 743 to 753K. However, it follows two different mechanisms, i.e. diffusion-controlled and interface-controlled, with the formation of both dendritic-like and spherical structures, respectively, in the low temperature region from 723 to 739K. Furthermore, the activation energy for crystallization from supercooled liquid is also temperature-dependant. The apparent activation energy is about 212kJ/mol in the high temperature region, but 314kJ/mol in the low temperature region. The different crystallization behaviour is believed to be due to the different structures that the metallic glass possesses at different temperatures.

采用静态拉伸方法在连续升温条件下动态地测量了大块金属玻璃Zr41 Ti14 Cu1215 Ni10 Be2215(Vit1)的黏度随温度的变化关系。在应变速率与温度的关系曲线中,观测到了与玻璃转变和晶化过程相联系的多个应变速率峰。在玻璃转变温度Tg以上,大块金属玻璃Zr41 Ti14Cu1215Ni10Be2215的过冷液体呈现Newton流体特征,其黏度与温度的关系符合Vogel2 Fulcher2 Tammann(VFT)关系式,拟合得到脆度D3=36,VFT温度T0=319K,脆度参数m=30,这说明Zr41 Ti14 Cu1215 Ni10 Be2215的过冷液体是一种类似于硅酸盐类的“强”液体。在玻璃转变温度Tg以下,粘度与温度的关系偏离VFT关系,从结构弛豫的观点出发,借助金属玻璃的自由体积模型对其进行了分析和讨论。
