王家素,重庆市开县人,1944年5月生,1967年重庆大学毕业,1970年在原国防科委某研究所从事超导技术应用研究至今,1988年调到西南交通大学。西南交通大学超导技术研究所(获2001年全国五一劳动奖状)所长、高工、博士生导师,国务院政府津贴专家,四川省超导技术学术和技术带头人,全国模范教师。正主持十五国家863计划、国家自然基金、博士点基金和211重点学科建设子项目。从事超导技术应用研究34年,从1970年以来主持完成了原国防科委、国家自然科学基金、国家863计划课题10余项。 “九五”期间提前完成了国家863计划项目,研制成功世界第一辆载人“高温超导磁悬浮实验车”。获2001年四川省科学技术特等奖,并入选2001年“中国高等学校十大科技进展” 。发表论文80余篇,其中2001年至今SCI 收录18篇。授权发明专利2项,授理发明专利2项。出版《超导技术应用》学术专著和《高温超导微波电路》学术译著各一部。主办ISMAGLEV’2002国际学术会议1次(任主席),主编国际会议论文集一本。

Onboard high temperature superconducting (HTS) Maglev equipment is a heart part of a HTS Maglev vehicle, which is composed of YBaCuO bulks and rectangle-shape liquid nitrogen vessel and used successfully in the first manned HTS Maglev test vehicle. Arrangement of YBaCuO bulks in liquid nitrogen vessel, structure of the vessel, levitation forces of a single vessel and two vessels, and total levitation force are reported. The first manned HTS Maglev test vehicle in the world has operated well more than one year after it was born on Dec. 31,2000, and more than 23,000 passengers have taken the vehicle till now. Well operation of more than one year proves the reliability of the onboard HTS Maglev equipment.

The first man-loading high temperature superconducting (HTS) magnetic levitation (Maglev) test vehicle in the world has normally operated over one year after its birth on December 31,2000. Heretofore over 23000 passengers have taken the vehicle, and it operates very well from first running to now. The HTS Maglev vehicle is over guideway, which consists of two parallel permanent magnetic tracks. The levitation force of the entire Maglev vehicle is measured. Three times measurement results on December 24,2000, July 1,2001, and December 24,2001 are reported respectively, it will be seen from this that the levitation forces do not change nearly after long running. Total levitation force of entire vehicle is 1050kg at the 8mm net levitation gap, which the gap between the bottom of liquid nitrogen vessels and guideway face. A measuring equipment of the guidance force of the entire Maglev vehicle is designed and manufactured. The guidance force of the vehicle is obtained by the equipment.

Levitation forces of YBaCuO bulk high temperature superconductors (HTS) with different shape and size over a NdFeB guideway were studied. Here, the concentrating magnetic field of the NdFeB guideway was 1.2 T, and the YBaCuO bulk HTSs include three cylindrical samples with different diameter and thickness and one hexagonal sample. The maximum levitation force is as high as 85.3N at a gap of 5mm between the bottom surface of YBaCuO bulk HTS and the top surface of the NdFeB guideway, where the applied magnetic field is about 0.8 T. The results show that the shape and the size have large influences on the levitation force of YBaCuO bulk HTSs.

The magnetic levitation (maglev) performance of YBaCuO bulk at different temperature is studied. The YBaCuO bulk is cooled by the G-M refrigerators and its temperature can descend from 100 to 40K. The maglev performance of YBaCuO bulk, such as levitation force, can be obtained by the high temperature superconducting maglev measurement system. The measured results in the different temperature are analyzed and discussed.

A hybrid maglev vehicle using permanent magnets and high temperature superconductor (HTS) bulks is presented. Its guideway is composed of permanent magnets and soft iron. The HTS bulks provide partial levitation force and guidance force, and the onboard permanent magnets provide additional levitation force. Firstly, the levitation force of a single permanent magnet and a single HTS bulk over a permanent magnetic track is studied, the surface magnetic flux density of which is up to 1.2T. Secondly, both levitation force and guidance force of two arrays of permanent magnets and HTS bulks are studied. Results show that the hybrid maglev vehicle using permanent magnets and HTS bulks has larger levitation force and stiffness.

The first man-loading high temperature superconducting Maglev test vehicle in the world is reported. This vehicle was first tested successfully on December 31,2000 in the Applied Superconductivity Laboratory, Southwest Jiaotong University, China. Heretofore over 17,000 passengers took the vehicle, and it operates very well from beginning to now. The function of suspension is separated from one of propulsion. The high temperature superconducting Maglev provides inherent stable forces both in the levitation and in the guidance direction. The vehicle is 3.5m long, 1.2m wide, and 0.8m high. When five people stand on vehicle and the total weight is 530kg, the net levitation gap is more than 20mm. The whole vehicle system includes three parts, vehicle body, guideway and controlling system. The high temperature superconducting Maglev equipment on board is the most important for the system. The onboard superconductors are melt-textured YBaCuO bulks. The superconductors are fixed on the bottom of liquid nitrogen vessels and cooled by liquid nitrogen. The guideway consists of two parallel permanent magnetic tracks, whose surface concentrating magnetic field is up to 1.2T. The guideway is 15.5m long.

Experimental results of levitation force of multi-block YBaCuO bulk HTSs over a NdFeB guideway are presented. The magnetic field in the center of the surface of the NdFeB permanent magnet guideway is up to 1.2T and still 0.4T at the position of 20mm above it. Several YBaCuO bulk samples are fixed in a columnar liquid nitrogen vessel with a thin bottom (3.5mm). The experimental results show that the levitation force is quite different for various combinations of YBaCuO bulks. Total combination magnetic levitation force of seven blocks of YBaCuO bulk superconductors is 264.1 N when the gap between the YBaCuO HTS and the NdFeB guideway is 10mm, and levitation force is 167.5 N at 20mm. Levitation force is even 106.2 N at 30mm. The optimization of the levitation force of multi-block YBaCuO bulk superconductors is discussed after the authors analyze the experimental data.

One of the prospective applications of YBaCuO bulk high temperature superconductors (HTS) is for superconducting magnetic levitation (Maglev) vehicles. The levitation force of a single permanent magnet over a single superconducting YBaCuO bulk has been researched, but this is not enough for practical Maglev vehicles. In this paper, properties of the levitation force of a YBaCuO bulk HTS over a NdFeB guideway are investigated. The magnetic field at the guideway surface is up to 1.2 T. During the experiment, bulk YBaCuO is placed in a columnar liquid nitrogen vessel, whose bottom thickness is only 3.5mm, and it is over the guideway. The YBaCuO is cooled in a zero magnetic field with liquid nitrogen and can move up and down at different velocities. The measurement process is fully controlled by a computer. In this case, there is a 103.4N levitation force at a 5mm gap between theYBaCuO (diameter=30mm, thickness=14mm) sample and the NdFeB guideway. In addition, we compare the levitation force over the NdFeB guideway with that over a single cylindrical NdFeB permanent magnet.

High Tc Superconductors are highly attractive because they can operate at liquid nitrogen temperature, The high performance of high Tc bulk superconductors is exciting to people in the application research work on superconducting magnetic levitation (Maglev) vehicle. The Maglev concept using high Tc bulk superconductors has been demonstrated by the Beijing Small Model. In this paper, schemes relating to the use of high Tc YBaCuO superconducting bulk materials for Maglev vehicle are discussed. First, the YBaCuO bulk superconductors are arranged above the rail using NdFeB permanent magnets. The second scheme is the electromagnetic suspension (EMS) Maglev vehicle using high Tc superconducting permanent magnets (SCPM) or high Tc superconducting wire. The third is the EMS Maglev using high Tc SCPM. The third scheme is chosen after making a comparison. The key problems of the EMS Maglev vehicle using high Tc SCPM are discussed.

The high performance of high Tc bulk superconductors is exciting people in the application research work on speronducting magnetic levitation (Mag-Lev) transportation system. In this paper, the various schemes relating to the use of high Tc superconducting bulk materials for Mag-Lev transportation systems are discussed. Those schemes include the levitation of bulk superconductors, the levitation using superconducting permanent magnets (SCPM), and the experimental model of a hybrid Mag-Lev transportation system using high Tc SCPMs. Some considerations about high Tc superconducting Mag-Lev vehicle also are presented, which used to the previous research on normal electromagnet levitation (EML) system in Southwest Jiaotong Uuiversity (SWJU) for reference.
