王青圃,男,中共党员,教授,博士生导师,山东大学教学名师,曾任山东大学第七届学位委员会委员,光学系学位分会主任。现任山东大学信息科学与工程学院学术委员会副主任、学位委员会副主任、山东大学信息科学部学术委员会委员、山东省重点学科光学工程学术带头人。山东激光学会副理事长,国家核心期刊《光电子激光》编委,《Semiconductor Photonics and Technology》名誉编委等,享受国务院特殊津贴,是国家自然科学基金评审专家、中国博士后基金评审专家、教育部重点学科评审专家、教育部优秀青年教师教学科研奖励基金评审专家等。他长期潜心于激光物理与技术、非线性光学、强激光与材料相互作用、半导体多量子阱材料与器件、光纤通讯等方面的教学与科学研究。主编“激光物理学”、“激光原理”,合译“量子力学原理及其应用”等著作四部。近几年曾主持承担国家自然科学基金项目,国防重点预研课题,国家863、国家教委博士点基金,山东省自然科学基金,山东省科委项目,山东省科委项目18项。先后在国内外重要学术刊物上发表学术论文150余篇,其中被SCI收录的40余篇,被EI收录的60余篇。作为第一完成人获2001年中国高校自然科学奖一等奖,还曾获山东省科技进步奖、国家教委科技进步奖、山东省优秀博士论文指导奖、山东省优秀硕士论文指导奖、全国科学大会奖、铁道部科技进步等奖励。

The rate equations for the intracavity-frequency-doubled quasi-three-level lasers are developed. By normalizing the related parameters, it is shown that the general solution to the rate equations is de pendent upon four dimensionless parameters: the normalized reabsorption loss, the pump to laser-mode size ratio, the normalized pump level, and a parameter written as nSHG, which is related to the ability of the nonlinear crystal to convert the fundamental to the second harmonic. By numerically solving these rate equations, a group of general curves are obtained to express the relations between the solution and the four dimensionless parameters.

The intracavity photon density and initial populationinversion density in the diode-pumped actively Q-switched laserrate equations are assumed to be Gaussian distributions. Thesespace-dependent rate equations are solved numerically and agroup of general curves are generated. By using these curvesand the related formulas, the pulse parameters of an arbitraryactively Q-switched laser can be easily estimated and an optimallycoupled Q-switched laser can be designed. A sample calculationfor a Q-switched Nd3+:YVO4 laser is presented to demonstratethe use of the curves and the related formulas.

The absorption spectrum of a new crystal Nd:Srs(PO4)3F (Nd:S-FAP) was measured and its strong absorption peak at 805.4nm showed that it can be suitably pumped with a laser-diode. By using a laser-diode pump operating at 805.4nm, Nd:S-FAP has been successfully lased at 1.059um. A slope efficiency of 37.5% and a laser threshold of only 13mW have been measured, and the theoretical prediction is in agreement with the experimental result.

The absorption spectrum of a new crystal, Nd:Sr5sVO4d3F (Nd:S-VAP), was measured, which showed thatNd:S-VAP can be suitably pumped at 583.0 and 809.0nm as well as with a xenon flash lamp. With atunable dye laser (570-600nm) and a xenon flash lamp as pump sources, respectively, the free-running andQ-switched outputs with BDN dye film were realized at 1.065mm. For the tunable dye-laser pump sourcethe threshold energy is 2mJ and the slope eff iciency is 50%, while for the xenon f lash-lamp pump source thelowest threshold energy is 130mJ and the highest slope efficiency is 1.3%. The laser characteristics, such asthe emission spectrum, the polarization, the output energy, and the pulse width, were measured. In addition,the prospect of a Nd:S-VAP crystal for low-threshold, high-eff iciency miniature lasers is discussed.

We analyzed the influence of random deviations of domain boundary in periodically poled crystals on quasi-phasematchingsingly resonant optical parametric oscillators (QPM-SROs). A mathematical method of dealing with thismatter is proposed and for the first time the functions of quasi-phase-matched singly resonant oscillation's opticalpower gain and pumping threshold on random deviations are deduced. The formula we obtained tallies with publishedexperiential equation. The results demonstrate that with the same magnitude, random period errors in periodicallypoled crystals will reduce a QPM-SROs gain and drive up its pumping threshold much more largely than random dutycycle errors do.

Analytical expressions for all key parameters of the optimally coupled Q-switched laser are derived. These parameters include the optimal reflectivity of the output mirror, the optimal initial transmission of the dye, and the maximum attainable output energy and corresponding peak power and pulse width for a given pump level. Meanwhile, according to the optimization theory of dye Q-switched lasers, a NAB miniature dye Q-switched laser is studied experimentally and experiment shows a good agreement with the theory.

Cr4+-doped saturable absorbers are characterized by long excited state lifetime and appreciable excited state absorption. In this paper, we first solve the three coupled rate equations describing the operation of Cr4+-doped saturableabsorber passively Q-switched lasers to obtain the expressions of pulse characteristics such as output energy, peak power, and pulsewidth. We then determine the key parameters of an optimally coupled passively Q-switched laser as functions of two variables concerning the amplifying medium, saturable-absorber medium, and pump level, and generate several design curves. These key parameters include the optimal normalized coupling parameter and the optimal normalized saturable-absorber parameter which maximize the output energy (or maximize the peak power, or minimize the pulsewidth), and the corresponding normalized energy, normalized peak power, and normalized pulsewidth. The results are valid for not only Cr4+-doped saturable-absorber Q-switched lasers but also other any lasers passively Q-switched by saturable absorbers with long excited state lifetime and appreciable excited state absorption. Using the expressions and design curves, with the aid of a simple hand calculator, one can predict the pulse characteristics and perform the design of an optimally coupled passively Q-switched laser. A laser diode pumped Cr4+:YAG repetitively and passively Q-switched Nd3+:S-FAP laser is studied theoretically and experimentally. The pulse energies, pulsewidths and pulse repetition rates in different conditions are measured and the experimental results are in agreement with the theoretical predictions on the whole.
