姚忻,长期从事REBCO高温超导体单晶体和液相外延生长厚膜生长理论和成材技术研究。海外工作期间多次受到国家教委[春晖计划]资助,到中国科学院和高校系统进行学术交流活动。发表SCI论文四十余篇。所主持的研究课题,取得了多项国际领先水平的成果,在日、美、欧分别取得专利,其中包括:
1. 1995年发明了高氧高速晶体生长方法,制备出世界最大YBCO超导体单晶体,在同年美国召开的国际超导会议上与研究小组成员一起获得“最大超导体单晶体及高质量晶体奖”, 作为主要研究者名列第一。
2. 通过热力学相平衡理论,利用液体成份控制,在大气环境下制备出95 K的NdBCO超导体大晶体。1997年获研究所所长奖并在同年美国召开的国际超导会议上与研究小组一起获得“最大超导体单晶体及高质量晶体奖”。
3. 为超导机制的研究和超导体材料的应用制备了多种具有特殊物理、化学和结构性能的混晶单晶体,单层和复层厚膜。 2002,在上海交通大学组建晶体生长实验室,获3项授权专利;发表SCI论文32篇,包括2篇发表在Prog. solid state ch上的综述论文;获2004年度上海市科学技术进步二等奖。取得如下重要成果:
1.在大气中研制成93 K世界大体积SmBCO高温超导晶体,其体积和物性指标与已报道的REBCO单晶体生长的最好结果处于同一水平。
2.通过液相外延研制成功大尺寸REBCO高温超导晶片(几~几十微米厚,2英寸直径)。目前世界上只有上海交通大学和日本超导研究所两个研究单位,拥有研制最大尺寸为2英寸的REBCO高温超导晶片的关键技术。
3.首次在氧气氛下生长获得95K SmBCO超导体。在氧气氛下生长REBCO超导体,95K是目前报道的最好成绩。
4.系统开展了REBCO薄膜热稳定性的探索研究,首次报道YBCO薄膜过热现象;探讨了二维薄膜的过热机制;首次采用YBCO过热薄膜作籽晶同质外延生长熔融织构的超导块材。

Using YBCO/MgO thin films, for the first time, we report a success in the melt-textured growth of YBCO bulks by the cold-seeding method. The grown bulk has a good orientation relation of YBCO 〈100〉 bulk Ⅱ YBCO 〈100〉 film Ⅱ MgO 〈100〉 substrate. In this process, the YBCO film withstood heating over its peritectic temperature (up to 1045℃) for 1.5 h and acted as a seed for the YBCO bulk growth, indicating an intrinsic superheating property, which was reported in other work. The unique superheating mechanism in this study was clarified. It was found that the a-b alignment of YBCO film plays a key role in controlling the single grain growth of YBCO bulk.

The effects of oxygen partial pressure on Y123 single-crystal growth, morphology and properties were inves-tigated. In the air atmosphere, high superconducting transition temperature (Tc) Nd1+χBa2-χCu3O7-δ (NdBCO) single crystals were grown by top-seeded solution-growth (TSSG) Two controllable thermodynamical parameters, i.e. liquid composition and growth temperature were focused on. Using the ratio of Ba to Cu (Ba:Cu) at 0.78 in the liquid, the grown NdBCO crystal displays onset Tc of 94.6K with a sharp transition width DT less than 1.5K. The Ba-rich liquid leads to the lower substitution of Ba with Nd in grown crystals, resulting in the higher Tc. This finding suggests that the Ba: Cu ratio in the liquid is a very important processing parameter for obtaining higher Tc of the NdBCO uperconductors. In addition, the higher Tc as well as the lower Nd substitution can be achieved when using the lower growth temperature. These results are consistently interpreted by the NdO1.5-BaO-CuO ternary phase diagram.

The growth of REBa2Cu3O7-δ (REBCOZrare earth elements) high-temperature superconducting thick films by liquid phase epitaxy is reviewed, which are most promising for electronic device and coated conductor applications. The paper focused on thermodynamic relations, chemical reactions and physical phenomena in the liquid phase epitaxy process, which are closely related to the control of the microstructures and properties of materials. Recent progresses achieved and the problems to be solved have been reviewed in above sections.

A low solubility of yttrium in the Ba-Cu-O melt and a steep liquidus slope near the peritectic temperature Tp lead to a very slow growth rate of YBa2Cu3O7-δ(YBCO or Y123) single crystals and this creates a problem in growth of large single crystals. To solve this problem, increasing the growth rate and extending the growth time are significant. Using the crystal pulling method, we have developed several processes and succeeded in growing large Y123 and Nd1−χBa2+χCu3O7−(NδBCO) single crystals with an edge size over 25mm in the a-b plane and up to 20mm in the c-axis direction. In this article, three methods of increasing growth rate are reviewed. They are (i) employing high oxygen partial pressure, (ii) choosing RE (rare earth) elements with higher solubilities in the Ba-Cu-O solution, and (iii) growing REBCO crystals including several RE elements. Using these methods the growth rate was effectively enhanced from two to five times that of Y123. The critical temperature Tc of 92.7 K was achieved from a Y123 single crystal grown under 1 atm oxygen partial pressure, indicating that Tc is insensitive to the oxygen pressure of the growth atmosphere in the YBCO system. A high Tc of about 95 K for NdBCO superconductors with a sharp transition was obtained by controlling the ratio of Ba to Cu (Ba/Cu) in the liquid, suggesting that the Ba/Cu ratio in the liquid composition has a significant importance in controlling Tc. By partial substitution of Sm at the Y sites up to 30%, Y1−xSmx Ba2Cu3O7−(Y(Sm)BCO) crystals show a Tc of 91±1K and do not display Tc depression.

We report a novel-superheating phenomenon inYBa2Cu3Oz (Y123) oxide films (over 45K), whichwere prepared by vapour deposition onMgOsubstrates. The origin of this superheating could be mainly attributed to the positive change of surface energy in peritectic melting, during which Y123 melts into the Y2BaCuO5 (Y211) solid and the Ba-Cu-O liquid. It was found that the heterogeneous melting initiates at the Y123/MgO interface and the molten liquid does not wet MgO and Y123. These melting features of Y123 films explain the delaying of the melting process.

In this communication, for the first time, we report on a high-Tc 95K Sm1+xBa2−xCu3Oz (SmBCO) single crystal with a small transition width of less than 0.5K grown under 1 atm oxygen pressure. We found that the substitution of Ba by Sm could be effectively suppressed by using liquid composition control. Jc-B curves and scaling analysis of samples at 77K with B Ⅱ c indicate that a delta Tc style defect is the predominant pinning in SmBCO crystals.

YBa2Cu3O7-dδ (YBCO) thin films were used as seed films for growing high peritectic temperature (TP) Nd1+χBa2-χCu3O7-δ (NdBCO) thick films by liquid phase epitaxy. On heating to a temperature above TP; polycrystalline YBCO grains agglomerate and then partially decompose. The metastable YBCO phase takes the lowest energy configuration, an enlarged size and a shape with an equilibrium curvature, which prohibits them from immediate decomposition and dissolution. As a result, the retained YBCO grains act as heteroeptaxial-seeds for the growing NdBCO grains in the Nd-Ba-Cu-O solution. Yttrium was detected in the NdBCO grains grown in the initial stage by EPMA, strongly supporting a model of the YBCO-seeded NdBCO growth.

Abrupt transition from a-axis growth to c-axis growth was found in the liquid phase epitaxy LPE process of YBa2Cu3Ox YBCO or Y123 on 110 NdGaO3 substrate. Subsequently, the influence of supersaturation and liquid composition on the orientation of LPE thick films was systematically studied. Dissimilar to the thin film deposition, the a-phase growth was predominant at a low supersaturation about 17K, especially grown by using a Cu-rich melt. The investigation of the initial stage of YBCO growth was performed, in which we found the protruding epitaxial a-axis grains and preferentially a-phase nucleation on the c-dominated thick film. The energy dispersive x-ray spectrometry attached scanning electron microscope was employed to confirm the composition of the outgrowth of long-axis grains, as well as the microstructure around the dipping boundary line in the initial growth. Based on the "nucleation and growth" mode, a comprehensive description of the competition between a-axis and c-axis growth under various growth environments was given, which further unveiled the origin of a-c transition in YBCO thick films.
