摘要

The application of AI technologies using modem computers and controllers is seen as a way forward to produce higher quality components more efficiently with smaller batch sizes and more frequent changeovers. Users continue to demand better accuracy, surface integrity, and shorter cycle times with reduced operator intervention and increased flexibility. This paper reviews research into the use of intelligent control and optimisation techniques in grinding and propose the incorporation of intelligent techniques into computer numerical controls (CNCs). Two main trends are evidenced in the development of AI technologies in grinding: desktop systems to assist tool and parameter selection and self-optimising systems integrated within the machine controller. It is predicted that future developments will favour increasing incorporation of intelligence into CNC. The development of modular systems which are sufficiently robust to plan. supervise and control abrasive processes requires ongoing research and development.

摘要

A precise evaluation of the form deviations of two-dimensional (2D) engineering contours is of essential importance in precision manufacturing. In this paper, we propose a practical approach towards evaluating form deviations of 2D contour profiles based on coordinate measurement data. Using this approach, a 2D contour is divided into straight and curved parts. Each straight part is directly presented by the original definition of the part; and each curved part is further represented by its optimal interpolation circular arc segments whose interpolation accuracy can be specified arbitrarily. The approximate contour curve consisting of the straight and circular arc segments has the fewest interpolation segments under the condition of satisfying the pre-specified interpolation accuracy. The form deviation of a measured point is defined as the distance from the point to its corresponding straight or circular segment. The geometrical form deviation of the contour profile is evaluated using the least square method. It has been demonstrated that the difference between the deviation definitions, relative to the original contour or to the approximate contour, is not larger than the pre-specified accuracy value for circular arc interpolation. Therefore, the evaluation precision of the form deviation can be sufficiently guaranteed. The approach is easy and convenient for engineering applications. The effectiveness and the efficiency of the approach are verified with a practical example of a planar cam contour in the paper.

摘要

This paper describes in two parts a new method and device for measuring motion accuracy of NC machine tools. In the first part, the measurement principle and the characteristics of the prototype device have been presented and discussed. In the second part, an efficient and practical approach to identifying the errors of the proposed device after assembly is developed and evaluated. The approach ensures realising the aim of the investigation, i.e. to measure the most items of the motion accuracy, especially, to measure and assess the trajectory accuracy of a general planar motion of NC machine tools. The result of the identification experiment by using the prototype device on a machining centre for the prototype device is presented and it well verifies the validity and practicality of the approach. Some measurement results for the general planar motions of the machining centre are also shown, which sufficiently demonstrate the desirable capability of the proposed method and device.
