Birefringent gratings induced by absorbing multi-photons at 532 nm in azobenzene doped polymethyl methacrylate(azo-PMMA)fibres were investigated.The maximum photo-induced birefringence observed from the fibre is about 3.0×10−5. The two-photon absorption coefficient β of the azo-PMMA at 532 nm obtained by the Z-scan method is 10.2cm GW−1, and the birefringence response time of the azobenzene is 10 μs.

The nonlinear absorption coefficient b of Azo (Azobenzene) liquid crystal polymer (LCP) was measured by using open aperture Z-scan technique with 10 ns, 532nm laser pulses.The value of b is 9.02cm/GW. The optical limiting (OL) response of Azo LCP in tetrahydrofuran (THF) was measured also by use of the Q-switched (10 ns) secondharmonic generation Nd:YAG pulse. We attribute the nonlinear absorption and OL property of Azo LCP to TPA effect at 532 nm.2002 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.

一种新型的波导多层存储器（WMM）由多层平面光波导叠合构成，利用波导缺陷记录数据，通过缺陷的光散射效应读出数据，并利用波导对光的空间约束作用实现层选址。制作了10层WMM模型器件，并给出了数据读出原理性实验结果。结果表明：WMM的层内信噪比大，层间信号串扰小，是一种很有潜力的三维光存储技术。

较完整地提出GRIN透镜干涉仪的数学模型，分析了光学系统处于六种不同模态下的特点，讨论了有关结构因素，特别是GRIN透镜长度对干涉仪工作性能的影响，有关分析和相关结论可作为GRIN透镜干涉仪系统设计和测量计算的依据。

介绍了在偶氮液晶聚合物薄膜P-CN中发现的非线性光致双折射现象，给出了非线性光致双折射实验的具体结果.采用Z-扫描技术验证了光致双折射的非线性过程本质，测量了P-CN介质薄膜的非线性吸收系数.讨论了光致双折射涉及的异构化微观机理，并在此基础上提出了非线性光2光异构化实现光致双折射的方法。
