Current researches on time constraints in workflow mainly focus on time-relevant process modeling and efficiency analysis based on the temporal attributes of processes and activities. This paper presents the concept of Temporal Workflow. Through extending and modifying the WfMC's Basic Process Definition Meta-model, a modified workflow meta-model is presented, and the temporal attributes of elements and their relations in it are analyzed in detail. Based on this, the primary elements in workflow are formalized, and time is introduced into workflow as a dimension.

Temporal information processing is the key and advanced technology of new generation of database and information system. Based on the research on Temporal Information Model (TIM), we think the Embedding Temporal Application mode is an important and proper method to implement temporal application at present. So we use temporal extended middleware to accomplish temporal processing. After deep researching on ATSQL2 query language and the translation algorithm from ATSQL2 to standard SQL used in TimeDB, we have developed a bitemporal extended software platform upon non-temporal RDBMS in distributed environment, which lays the foundations of adding more temporal knowledge expression, query and reasoning into TIM.

As with relational data, XML data changes over time with the creation, modification, and deletion of XML documents. Expressing queries on time-varying (relational or XML) data is much difficult than writing queries on nontemporal data. In this paper we introduce a data model and made some modification, by which we can map the semistructure with temporal attribute into relational databases. To realize the optimization we make some extension to index technique by add temporal attribute in it.

In this paper, we analyze the characteristic between temporal relation and XML-document according to temporal queries, and discuss some problems about XML Queries which contain two temporal variables, denoted by "NOW" and "uc". We also show solutions for these problems. In finally, we validate our algorithms in practice using XQuery, a powerful query language designed for ArML.
