Nanocrystalline trimanganese tetroxide (Mn O ) has been successfully synthesized by a solvothermal reaction in which 3 4 KMnO is reduced by CH OH or CH CH OH under pressure. Alcohol also served as the solvent in the method. The 4 3 32 reaction temperature can be as low as 80-1008C. Transmission electron micrographs and X-ray powder diffraction patterns show that the average particle sizes are 9-15 nm. From the electron spin resonance (ESR) pattern, hyperfine structure (six 21 31 absorption peaks of ESR) of Mn ion is observed on the main line of Mn. The mechanism for the formation of crystalline Mn O is proposed.

Li2MnO3 with different nanostructures was synthesized through a solid-state reaction. MnOOH nanorods and nanowires prepared via the hydrothermal method were used as precursors, respectively, to react with Li (OH). H2O to prepare nanostructured Li2MnO3 in the temperature range from 500 to 800 8C. The samples were characterized by XRD, TEM, ESR and FTIR results. Based on the experimental results, the dehydration-oxidation-combination (DOC) formation mechanism of Li2MnO3 was proposed.

Nanocrystalline CoSe2 was successfully synthesized in the temperature range 90-170à℃ through a hydrothermal method. All the reflections in the XRD pattern of CoSe2 could be indexed as an orthorhombic system with cell parameters a 5 3.589, b 5 4.838, and c 5 5.713 Å. TEM images of the products showed a rod-like morphology. Disproportionation products of selenium in alkaline aqueous solution provide a convenient chalcogen source and make possible the synthesis of ransitionmetal selenides under hydrothermal conditions. The mechanism of the formation of CoSe2 is proposed.
