White light interferometry has been adopted to measure distributed polarization coupling in high-birefringence waveguides. Since the coupling mode is weak compared to the exciting mode, the contrastratio of the interferogram is very low. This will increase the difficulty of direct detection of the polarization coupling intensity. By rotating the angle between the polarization eigenmodes and the principal axis of the linear polarizer from 45˚ to 85˚, the contrast ratio of the interferogram can be improved more than 10 times. As a result, the measurement sensitivity can be improved more than 100 times.

基于白光干涉原理,通过麦克尔逊干涉仪的光程补偿作用,检测保偏光纤空间分布寄生偏振耦舍强度和耦合点位置。经数据采样时域理论分析知:扫描步长增大时,耦合强度检测误差和耦合点位置判断误差呈线性增大。扫描步长小于500nm时,强度误差小于5%,位置误差在±11mm之内。

In this paper, a novel method to measyre the distributed polarization mode coupling in poladzation-maintaining (PM) fibers is introduced. The measuement system is based on white light interference. A super luminescent diode is used as the broadband light source in the system, The whole test system is working on 130Ohm wavelength. There are two main palls of the measurement equipment: poladzation adjustment and a scanned Micbelson interferometer. In order to improve the accuracy, a piezoelectric transducer (PZT) is applied in the scanned Micbelson interferometer. The maximum length of tested polafizadon-maintnining fiber is one kilometer, and the spatial resolution of this method reacbed 60mm along the tested PM fiber, The degree of polarization mode coupling that could be detected is-75dB.

A novel structure has been designed for bit synchronization in a terabit-per-second optical interconnection network with adjustable op tical delay lines, The two-stage network consists of 1024 optical links connected to a central switching module. A distributed optical clock net-work is designed for bit synchronization at each node computer. Zero link setup time can be achieved by precisely matching the phases of each pair of clock and signal, The link-to-link switching time can be reduced to less than 20 ns in the two-stage network. Even in a three-stage network that can accommodate 32.768 optical links, the link switching time can be maintained below 30ns. At the same time, a total bidirectional band-width of 98304Tbit/s can be obtained. Since bit synchronization is achieved entirely in the optical domain, this structure is independent of link transmission rates.
