Design of a Reconfigurable Reflectarray Antenna for Wide-Angle Beam Scanning
Abstract:In the fields of wireless communications and radar monitoring, wide-angle beam scanning is critically important for enhancing system performance. To realize this functionality, we have designed an X-band 1-bit reconfigurable reflectarray antenna. The antenna unit incorporates a rectangular aperture design, ingeniously combined with metal through-hole structures, ensuring stability of the radiation pattern in the vicinity of 10 GHz frequency. Experimental comparisons demonstrate that the introduction of metal through-holes significantly improves the unit\'s resistance to interference from oblique incident waves. Under substantial variations in the incident angle of electromagnetic waves, the unit can maintain a phase difference of approximately 180 , guaranteeing overall performance stability.Based on this unit design, a 16×16 reflectarray has been constructed. Simulation results show that this array can achieve wide-angle beam scanning of ±60 at 10 GHz, with the array gain at a 60 scan angle declining by no more than 3 dB compared to that at 0 . Throughout the entire scanning process, the array maintains rich gain and low sidelobe levels, which are crucial for improving communication quality and radar detection accuracy.In summary, the design of this 1-bit reconfigurable reflectarray antenna provides robust technical support for wide-angle beam scanning applications in complex electromagnetic environments.
