The audience’s synchronous applause from disorder to order which is formed in concert halls is a typical emergence phenomenon on a human scale. Emergence is a new property and phenomenon that arises from the interactions among the basic elements in complex systems and can only be observed on a system scale1. However, the internal mechanism and mathematical model between audiences who clap in concert halls are unknown. Here we show a nonlinear emergent model to characterize the collective behaviours of the complex multi-agent systems. Based on this model, we set up an experimental platform for emergent computation to simulate many hands clapping. We found that there exists a critical region generated in the procedure from disorder to order. Due to interaction of clapping time, the clapping interval slackens in this critical region. Furthermore, we gain a synchronous criterion which audience's clapping can form synchronization.
