摘要/描述

CSIRO is developing a ventilation air methane catalytic combustion gas turbine technoIogy which is not only thermodynamically viable but also promises to use a much greater proportion of ventilation air compared with other technologies. This catalytic turbine can be used not only to mitigate methane in the ventilation air, but also to recover the energy released by methane oxidation to generate electricity. This paper briefly summarises the development of 1% CH4 catalytic turbine system based on the methane catalytic combustion experimental results and the design criteria determined for mine site application, and mainly presents the results of technical and economic analysis of the 1% CH4 turbine implementation into two Australian gassy mines, compared with the 16% CH4 turbine, based on real methane emission data over one year period. The characteristics of methane emissions are also presented. The 1% CH4 catalytic turbine significantly reduces the quantity of drainage gas required as a supplementary fuel to even out ventilation air fluctuations and to sustain the turbine system operation, and 1% CH4 seems to be a good combination of CH4 in ventilation air and drainage gas for a gassy mine. This turbine should be easier to manufacture than normal industrial gas turbines as it operates at low temperature and low pressure without cooling and dilution air. This technology, in its full scale implementation, promises to use between 80 and 100 percentage of fugitive methane emissions from gassy coalmines
