Scattering of a plane wave with linear polarization by a chiral-coating conducting sphere is presented. The expressions for the expansion coefficients of scattered fields and internal fields are obtained. The achiral-coating and the bare sphere limiting cases for these formulas are examined. The monostatic and bistatic radar cross-section (RCS) for three different chiral media: a lossless dielectric chirality, a loss dielectric chirality and a loss magnetic chirality are shown.

The propagation characteristics of a plasma waveguide with a finite thickness of cladding immersed in an external magnetic field are presented. The effects of the collision frequency, electron cyclotron frequency, plasma thickness of cladding on propagation constants are investigated. Numerical investigations show that the attenuation of the waveguide is an oscillating function of the plasma thickness of cladding and collision frequency.

The normal modes in overmoded plasma waveguide coated with a lossy material are analyzed, particularly for the variation of its propagation properties with plasma parameters, coating materials, dimensions of the waveguide and frequencies. The separate characteristic equations of normal modes are derived, and their relevant approximate solutions are given. The limit results are consistent with those given in literature. The analysis shows that the propagation properties of the overmoded plasma circular waveguide can be controlled by choosing proper plasma parameters, coating materials and waveguide dimensions.

An new analytical technique for obtaining a complete set of reflection, absorption, and transmission coefficients for a stratified plasma slab is presented, named the scattering matrix method (SMM). The nonuniform magnetized plasma slab is modeled by a number of subslabs. Each subslab has a fixed electron density. The overall density profile across the whole slab follows any practical distribution function. Because the field in each subslab can be represented by the sum of the reflected and incident components, the partial reflection and transmission coefficients can be obtained by successively matching boundary conditions at all interfaces. The partial and total reflected, absorbed, and transmitted powers as the functions of the electron density, collision frequency, and electron cyclotron frequency for typical parabolic and exponential density profiles are investigated.
