As a structural course building material, stabilized soil is widely used in surpar highways in China.This is due to its full utilization of in-sult materials, lower construction cost, higher bearing capacity and simpler construction technique. However, some problems appeared during road construction, operation and reconstruction, such as cracking at low temperatures, slow strength developing, fatigue strength and deformation limits, and strength formation mechanism, were studied by the author. Some research achievements were presented in this paper. The main conclusions are follows, (1) With chemical additives, fully stimulating and utilizing the active matrix in fly ash and soil can increase early strength of stabilized soil at normal and low temperatures; (2) The gravel content and structural pattern of mixture determine their effect on the thermal contraction of stabilized soil. Greater percentage of fly ash in the mixture reduees the thermal sensibility of soil-fly ash-lime; (3) Gravel stabilized with inorganic binders is fragile and sensitive to applied stress level during repeated loading. Strain growth, for all kinds of stabilized gravels, has the same limit ∑=250×10-6; (4) With thermodynamics analysis the theoretical optimum quantity of lime, curing possibility at low or high teperatures were determined.
