Cheilolejeunea (Lejeuneaceae; Hepaticae) in China is reviewed taxonomically. Twenty species of the genus are recognized and two of them, Cheilolejeunea serpentina (Mitt.) Mizut. and C. verrucosa Steph., are newly recorded in the country. Cheilolejeunea longiloba (Steph. ex G.Hoffm.) J.J.Engel & B.C.Tan is proposed as a synonym of C. imbricata (Nees) S.Hatt. owing to the presence of numerous intermediates between the two. The lectotype of Strepsilejeunea gomphocalyx Herzog is designated. Cheilolejeunea rigidula (Nees ex Mont.) R.M.Schust. is excluded from China. A key to subgenera and species in China is provided.

A lectotype is designated for the name Lopholejeunea utriculata Steph. This selection preserves current usage of the name, but two other original specimens of Lopholejeunea utriculata are assigned to L. lepidoscypha.

One hundred and sixty eight epiphyllous liverworts belonging to 28 genwera of ten families are recognized. Including two new species (Cololejennea yipii R. L. Zhu and Lejeunea hui R. L. Zhu) from Yunnan and one new variety from Hainan. The Lejcuneaceae is the largest family with 138 species in 19 genera. The genus with the largest number of species is Cololejeunea (63 species). The adaptations of epiphyllous liverworts to the phyllosphere and the relationship with their hosts are discussed. Keys are presented to all families. genera, and species. Most species are fully deseribed and illustrated. together with range and taxonomie as well as ccological notes. Eight species are newly reported for China. Caudalejeunea reniloba (Gottsche) Steph., Cheilolejetanea latidentata P. C. Chen & P. C. Wu. C. subplanilo-bula P. C. Chen & P. C. Wu Cololejeunea denlifolia Udar & G. Srivast., C. latilobula (Herzog) Tixier var, WUYIENSIS (P. C. Chen & P. C. Wu) Piippo,k Drepanolejeujnea szechuanica P. C. Chen. Leptolejeunea aberrantia Horik. L. hainanensis P. C. Chen, Pedinolejeunea unguleta herzog are reduced to new synonyms. Cololejeunea longifolia (Mitt). Mizut., C. gottschei (Steph). Mizut., Leptolejeuntea apieulata (Horik). S. Hatt., and L. foliieola Steph. are reap-praised and C. gouschei and L. apiculata are reinstated as Separate species. The phyto-gcograghy of epiphyllous liverworts is discussed. and 14 taxa are cndemic to the county. Five occurrence centers of epiphyllous liverworts are recognized, and the province with the highest speeies number is Yunnan (77 species), Several lectotypes are newly designated. Cheilolejeunea eximia (Ast & Tixier) R. L. Zhu & M.L So and Drepanolejeunea herzogii R. L. Zhu & M. L. So are proposed as a new combination and new name, respectively. The genus Prionolejeunea (Spruce) Schiffn, is exeluded from China.

Capillolejeunea from the East African Islands does not deserve generic recognition and is proposed as a synonym of Drepanolejeunea (Lejeuneaceae, Hepaticae) based on studies of fertile material. The new combination, Drepanolejeunea mascarena comb. nov., is proposed. Detailed description and illustrations of Drepanolejeunea mascarena are provided.
