Techniques from the perturbation method, the reliability-baseddesign theory and optimisation techniques are employed to present apractical and effective method for the reliability-based optimisation ofautomobile components. The theoretical formulae for reliability-basedoptimisation are obtained. The most probable point perturbation method(MPPPM) and reliability-based optimisation theory are employed todevelop the reliability-based optimal design of automobile components.Two examples are used to illustrate the reliability-based optimisationformulation and demonstrate the method. The accuracy of the approachproposed is evaluated by comparing their results to that obtained fromMonte Carlo simulations (MCS)

The reliability-based optimization, the reliability sensitivity technique, and therobust design are employed to present a practical and effective approach of robust reliabilitydesign for mechanical components on the condition of known probabilistic characteristics oforiginal random variables. The theoretical formula of robust reliability design for mechanicalcomponents is obtained. The respective program can be used to obtain the robust reliabilitydesign parameters accurately and quickly. According to the numerical results, the methodproposed is a convenient and practical robust reliability design method.

Based on the generalized probabilistic finite element method, this paper presents anapproximate solution technique for general multi-degree-of-freedom nonlinear random vibrationsystems with random parameters. The fourth-moment technique, maximum entropy theory andincomplete probability information theory are employed to systematically develop a reliabilityanalysis method for dynamic random structural systems with correlation failure modes underunavailable joint probability density functions of basic random variables. The first passage problemof multi-degree-of-freedom nonlinear random vibration systems is solved.

This paper proposes the application of reliability-based optimization and robust design methods of a coil tube-spring. The perturbation method, the Edgeworth series, the reliability-based optimization, the reliability sensitivity technique, and the robust design method are employed to present practical and effective approaches of reliability-based optimization and robust design for coil tube-spring with non-normal distribution parameters, on the condition of the known first four moments of the original random variables. Theoretical formulae for reliability-based optimization and robust design are obtained. The respective programmes can be used to obtain the reliability-based optimization and robust design parameters of a coil tube-spring with non-normal distribution parameters accurately and quickly.
