The developed locomotive in coal mine drawn by the parallel drive system of the double Switched Reluctance motors is introduced. The operational principles, the control pattern and the component parts of the traction and the regenerative braking operation are proposed. The drive system contributes to reduce the cost of utilization of the locomotive per ton kilometer.

The paper presents the analysis of the four-phase 8/6 structure Switched Reluctance motor drive under the lacking one phase fault condition with the fault tolerant control and without the fault tolerant control by the two common adjustable-speed control strategies. Some performance indexes that indicate the capacity of fault tolerant, the effect of the fault, the current rating requirement of the main switches in the power converter and the load requirement of the phase windings in the motor, are given. The drive could continue operation and keep the rated output without the faulted phase by the fault tolerant control with the current rating of the components in the power converter and the load rating of the normal phase windings in the motor allowed.

The paper gives a variable angle pulse width modulation (PWM) adjustable-speed control strategy for four-phase 8/6 structure Switched Reluctance motor drive and introduces the developed prototype. Taking a four-phase 8/6 structure prototype for example, the variable angle PWM adjustable-speed control strategy is compared with the fixed angle PWM adjustable-speed control strategy that the turn-on angle of the main switches is fixed at -7.50 and the turn-off angle of the main switches is fixed at 22.50. It is shown that the four-phase 8/6 structure Switched Reluctance motor drive using the novel PWM control strategy has low peak value of phase current, high efficiency and the fixed switching frequency value of the main switches over the low rotor speed range.

The paper presents the Switched Reluctance variable speed generator system. The structure of the switched reluctance generator, the rotor position detector, the exciting power converter and the controller are given. The mathematical models of the system are also given. Two control strategies of the constant-power output control with the constant output voltage are advanced. The experimental tested results of the prototype with two control strategies of the constant-power output control with the constant output voltage are also presented. It is shown that the generator system at the wide velocity range has the high systematical efficiency and the low peak value of phase current with adopted the fixed conducting angle PWM control strategy. All those contribute to enhancing the reliability of the system, increasing the transformed ratio of energy/electrical energy. The asymmetric bridge exciting power converter and the bifilar winding exciting power converter could be used in the system. The IGBT and MOSFET could be used as the main switches in the exciting power converter. The comparison of the two types of the exciting power converters were made, and the comparison of the two types of the main switches were also made.

The paper presents the component parts and their models of the Switched Reluctance motor drive system with the angle position-current chopping control and with the fixed angle pules width modulation control. The calculation fo the parameters and the simulated models based on the MATLAB SIMULINK software package are introduced by a four-phase 8/6 structure prototype with the four-phase asymmetric bridge power converter. The simulation of the prototype in the course of starting is made by the simulated models at the different control strategies and the different given rotor speed.
