摘要

The pulse stability in the soliton storage rings with consideration of amplifier ASE noise, Raman self-frequency shift and third-order dispersion are studied numerically, and various compensation techniques are investigated. Based on the numerical simulation, two schemes of soliton storage rings are suggested.

摘要

We propose a novel scheme for 40 Gb/s all-optical NOT operation with pseudorandom bit sequences (PRBSs) based on a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) assisted Sagnac interferometer. The performance of the NOT gate is analyzed through numerical simulations. With properly designed parameters, a high quality output signal with an extinction ratio (ER) exceeding 17dB and a Q factor over 18 dB can be achieved. A high quality eye diagram is also achievable, indicating that the amplitude fluctuation of the output signal is effectively reduced. The optimum time offset between the data and probe signals is calculated. For a Q factor of 7.78dB, the time offset can deviate from the optimum value in a range of about 7 ps. The output pulses are almost distortionless compared with the probe pulse and their shapes are not influenced by the SOA carrier lifetime and the input data power.

摘要

In this paper, the all-optical exclusive OR gate using an integrated SOA-based Mach-Zehnder interferometer with a differential modulation scheme is proved to exceed the operation speed limit effectively through numerical analysis for the first time. The control-signal pulse parameters and delay time are discussed and designed to optimize the performance of the XOR gate.

In this paper, homowavelength crosstalk in optical packet networks is evaluated with the following aspects taken into consideration: device crosstalk coefficient, signal extinction ratio, traffic load, node size, and cascadability. Our results are very useful for the design of optical packet networks.
