The pulse stability in the soliton storage rings with consideration of amplifier ASE noise, Raman self-frequency shift and third-order dispersion are studied numerically, and various compensation techniques are investigated. Based on the numerical simulation, two schemes of soliton storage rings are suggested.

A new method for simultaneous optical pulse compression and extinction ratio improvement of G-S lasers by using comb-like dispersion profiled fiber is proposed and experiment verified. The extinction ratio was improved about I0 dB, which permits almost penalty free 40 Gbit/s lOOkm OTDM transmission with the addition of asymmetry dispersion compensation approach.

The performance of ultra-fast all-optical XOR gate using two types semiconductor optical amplifier-based Mach-Zehnder interferometers (SOA-MZIs) is analyzed. Key parameters are optimized through numerical simulations. With properly designed parameters, 40 Gb/s all-optical XOR gate using SOA-MZI can be realized with fairly high performance. The results are helpful for parameter design of SOA-MZI-based XOR gate.
