An all-optical switch is demonstrated. The switch is based on the photon-induced carrier effect and the principle of the total internal reflection (TIR). An asymmetric Y-branch with multimode waveguides is designed and fabricated on GaAlAs/GaAs epitaxial materials. The 805-nm light is used to activate the carrier effects and generate the total-reflection effect at the branch. The device is characterized at the wavelength of 1.31m. Its extinction ratio is larger than 18.0dB when the injected optical density is 15

摘要

An integrated circular-polarization modulator (CPM) is designed and fabricated with electrooptic (EO) polymeric materials employing contact poling. Tilted-poling is employed to activate the conversion between TE and TM modes, while the tensor nature of the poled polymeric materials is used to generate the phase-difference modulation. With appropriate voltage control, the outputs at the 45-tilted linear, left-hand-circular (LHC), 45-tilted linear, and right-hand-circular (RHC) polarization states are achieved. The extinction ratios at the linearly polarized states are larger than 25dB.

摘要

Propagation constant errors (PCEs) of guided modes in regions of multimode interference in optical networks were analyzed. Results show that a graded-index waveguide can effectively decrease the PCEs. An example based on an exponential function is presented. Numerical results show that addition of a graded-index waveguide greatly improves device performance in this structure.

摘要

提出一种旁路结构聚合物热光可变光衰减器（vnabJe optical attenuator，VOA）的设计，采用旁路波导可提高衰减效率并降低串扰软件模拟验证，无司距旁路VOA衰减可达28dB，比未加旁路波导的相同结构VOA增10dB，但同时插入损耗增加0.3dB，串扰低于-44dB，理论功耗为40mW。采用倒脊形结构研制了原理性的热光聚合物VOA，测得衰减大于11dB，相应输入电流为66mA，具有明显的热光效应。
