Fleming-Viot processes incorporating mutation and selection are considered. It is well-known that if the mutation factor is of uniform type, the processes have a reversible stationary distribution, and it has been an open problem to characterize the class of the processes that have a reversible stationary distributions. This paper proves that if the Fleming-Viot process has a reversible stationary distribution, then the associated mutation operator is of uniform type.

A new formulation of non-local branching superprocesses is given from which we derive as special cases the rebirth, the multitype, the massstructured, the multilevel and the age-reproduction-structured superprocesses and the superprocess-controlled immigration process. This unified treatment simplifies considerably the proof of existence of the old classes of superprocesses and also gives rise to some new ones.
