superprocess with coalescing spatial motion is constructed in terms of one-dimensional excursions. Based on this construction, it is proved that the superprocess is purely atomic and arises as scaling limit of a special form of the superprocess with dependent spatial motion studied in Dawson et al. (2001) and Wang (1997, 1998).

The immigration processes associated with a given branching particle system are formulated by skew convolution semigroups. It is shown that every skew convolution semigroup corresponds uniquely to a locally integrable entrance law for the branching particle system. The immigration particle system may be constructed using a Poisson random measure based on a Markovian measure determined by the entrance law. In the special case where the underlying process is a minimal Brownian motion in a bounded domain, a general representation is given for locally integrable entrance laws for the branching particle system. The convergence of immigration particle systems to measure-valued immigration processes is also studied.

A new formulation of non-local branching superprocesses is given from which we derive as special cases the rebirth, the multitype, the massstructured, the multilevel and the age-reproduction-structured superprocesses and the superprocess-controlled immigration process. This unified treatment simplifies considerably the proof of existence of the old classes of superprocesses and also gives rise to some new ones.

Fleming-Viot processes incorporating mutation and selection are considered. It is well-known that if the mutation factor is of uniform type, the processes have a reversible stationary distribution, and it has been an open problem to characterize the class of the processes that have a reversible stationary distributions. This paper proves that if the Fleming-Viot process has a reversible stationary distribution, then the associated mutation operator is of uniform type.

The immigration structure associated with a measure-valued branching process may be described by a skew convolution semigroup. For a special type of measure-valued branching process, the Dawson-Watanabe superprocess, we show that a skew convolution semigroup corresponds uniquely to an infinitely divisible probability measure on the space of entrance laws for the underlying process. An immigration process associated with a Borel right superprocess does not always have a right continuous realization, but it can always be obtained by transformation from a Borel right one in an enlarged state space.
